+The Jester
It doesn't affect the planned trip, but be aware there is proposed develoment at the Serria Ct TH. We say the sign a couple of weeks ago when we did the Lookout cache. Just for info: The Serria Ct trail is fairly steep until the juction with the C5 (near the words 'Issaquah Junction' on Jon's map). From there to a way past Tie Mill it's flat. Everywhere else you're going downhill (only some of them are in the wrong direction ). Quote Link to comment

Moun10Bike
I just got word from lahontan that he will be placing a new cache up on the mountain before our scheduled hike. We may want to wait and see where that one is located before making a final decision on our starting point! Quote Link to comment

First, check the equation used to get coordinates for Native Plant Pop Quiz; they were adjusted today. Somewhere along the line adjustments were made that didn't carry through. Thanks for the clarification lahontan. Second we have some time so let's see what the new multi looks like before establishing a starting location. I sure hope my work situation allows me to join the group. Edited January 22, 2005 by runhills Quote Link to comment

Moun10Bike
Nothing has come through the approval queue yet from lahontan, so I think we should make plans expecting that it won't be ready in time for us. I would still vote for starting from Sierra CT SW - we start high that way and have an easy bail-out at just about any time. I would suggest heading first for Squak Mtn Lookout, then circling around and picking up the others in more-or-less counter-clockwise order. Plus, lahontan shared with me that his multi will likely start at the Mountainside Trailhead that is just below the Sierra Ct. Trailhead, so it would be easy to adjust if it does get submitted. Works for me. Just need a time - let's work backward.... - Kealia, what time do you want to be back at your car to go to the airport? - Jon (or someone else), how long do think it will take us to do the 4-cache loop (with a few rest stops ) ? I'd just as soon not have to get up tooooo early if I don't have to, not a morning person here, but I know Kealia has a plane to catch. Quote Link to comment

Moun10Bike
Jon (or someone else), how long do think it will take us to do the 4-cache loop (with a few rest stops ) ? Going off rough estimates from my map, this is what I am envisioning as the route along with associated mileage: LEG LEG DISTANCE/TOTAL DISTANCE === =========================== Sierra Ct. -> N1 -> Perimeter Loop -> GCHQC2 1.4 miles/1.4 miles GCHQC2 -> Perimeter Loop -> W3 -> C2 -> GCC3B0 0.9 miles/2.3 miles GCC3B0 -> C2 -> C1 -> C4 -> GC4B3 1.2 miles/3.5 miles GC4B3 -> S3 -> C5 -> GCJGMK 0.9 miles/4.4 miles GCJGMK -> C5 -> N1 -> Sierra Ct. 2.0 miles/6.4 miles Editing to add a link to the map for reference. This route front loads most of the serious climbing. If we decide that there is just too much climbing at the start, we could make the decision to do the caches in reverse order split up some of the elevation gain. If we expect to travel at an overall rate of 2 miles per hour, that would put us at around 3-1/4 hours. Of course, I imagine it will take us longer than that. I would say at least 4 hours and more likely at least 5. Edited January 25, 2005 by Moun10Bike Quote Link to comment
+Kealia
I need to be back at the airport at 4:00 for my flight, and from what I've been through traffic-wise at off-hours from Bellevue, I'm assuming I need a solid hour to get there from where we are, right? That being said, I have no problem with the hike as proposed by Moun10Bike - just gimmie the coords to the trailhead and/or easy directions to get there since I don't know the roads. How does a 9:00 start to the hike sound? if it does in fact take 5 hours, that would put us done at 2:00 and give me some cushion (assuming we take breaks, pics, etc.). FYI - I tend to hike faster when on my own (between 3-4 mph) so I won't be slowing things down - no problems if there are others who don't keep that pace. Sounds like fun guys. Quote Link to comment

You can download the waypoints for the area, minus the cache locations, in your chosen format from my map page. The Sierra Ct. trailhead location is the waypoint named "SIERRA CT" and is located at N47 30.997 W122 03.477. One issue: I mapped the waypoints based on the aerial photos, and I see that the waypoint for Sierra Court is positioned a bit northwest of where the end of Sierra Ct. shows on Garmin's MapSource maps. So, if autorouting, you may get some funky results at the end. Directions: Take Exit 17 off of I-90 and turn south on Front Street At 0.6 miles, turn right on W Sunset Way Drive 1.3 miles and turn left on Mountainside Dr. SW Turn right onto Squak Mountain Loop SW 0.7 miles later Drive 0.3 mile and turn right onto Sierra Ct. SW. Trailhead is at end of street. Quote Link to comment

Surely most working stiffs are functionable by 8:00 AM and for those that don't have to work.....well maybe someday I'll join your ranks. Well, I'm a working stiff and I don't normally get up till 8:00, get to work at 9:00. So I'd prefer a 9 am start, so as not to get up so much earlier than I do for work. I am also not very coherent that time of day. But whatever the majority decides, I'll try to make work. Quote Link to comment
+LandRover
I normally get up a 0500 to be at work by 0630. So no matter whether it be 0800 or 0900 I will get to sleep in a little. But I will probably need a little extra sleep since I will be sick that day. Quote Link to comment

I'll check then for anything about meeting for a drink on Wed night as well as the final agreed upon strating time. My vote would also be for 8:00 so as to not feel rushed and push anybody to hike faster than they are comfortable moving.
