warthog
Hi all, As for Australia, NZ, Canada and USA, do you guys think it may be a good idea that someone contact the developers at Geocaching and see what is the posibility of adding our provinces as part of the cache details for South African caches.? Your view on this please. Quote Link to comment
Africard
Personally I do not like too many variables when searching. On the other hand SA is big enough to support the provinces idea and the province boundaries are already marked on the maps. Geocaching is a growing sport, and maybe this will open it to league games, more events, etc. We definately require more inputs from other geocachers in SA. Quote Link to comment
Discombob
I don't really think it thats necessary, but then again, I don't leave my province that often! What I did last year when i was on holiday in Gauteng, was to choose a random cache in Gauteng, and then choose the "Show me all nearby Caches" option, which worked fine for me Quote Link to comment
GlobalRat
I'm with Warthog on this one. While I don't think the volume of caches in SA currently makes it justifiable, I'd like to see the provinces listed at some stage....perhaps one day when we hit 1000 caches.....sigh . About a month ago I spent quite some time putting together a spreadsheet of SA caches and sourcing the province for each. As I travel around a bit, it's nice to be able to get a list of caches in a province. Quote Link to comment
warthog
Hi all, I received feedback from Geocaching.com on this subject and will now forward them the list of the nine provinces. For those making use of GSAK, I will now contact them to enquire on same. See Geocaching.com email below: Hello If you can provide a list of the provinces for South Africa we'll be happy to add them to the site. Thanks! Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. If possible, how do we go about getting this done? Regards Team Warthog - Petrus Keyter : Quote Link to comment
GlobalRat
EXCELLENT Well done. My only question now is...... Geocaching.com still calls it Northern Province.... have you sent them Northern Province or Limpopo Province??? This after I'd spent about an hour updating GSAK Can't wait! Quote Link to comment

warthog
Hi there, GSAK or "Geocaching Swiss Army Knife", is really an off-line application (with url links when you are online) of having lists and information about your caches. Visit www.gsak.net for full details Edited January 6, 2005 by warthog Quote Link to comment
warthog
I have now also received feedback from Clyde, the developer of GSAK. See below: Hi Petrus, There is no need to change GSAK for this. GSAK already allows for a state column and you can search and sort on this column At the moment this columun is probably blank for SA caches, but when it becomes populated you can then search and sort just as you would it the cache was in the US or Australia. +GlobalRat
Africard GSAK = BRILLIANT You'll need to become a Premium Member to use it...... But Ohhhhhh the Pleasure As with Warthog, I've spent my past laboriusly maintaining spreadsheets... GSAK does it all and more.... AND I now have a reason to wipe off the dust from my PDA GET IT PS: I'm in no way affiliated with Groundspeak or Clyde the GSAK author Quote Link to comment

warthog
For a latest update on this topic, please refer to copy of email below. I will keep all up to date on this and inform all as soon as I receive notice that it has been done. Hello Petrus Sorry for the delay. I've sent this list to our site developer but there are many issues which need resolving before we can add these provinces. I'm sure it won't be much longer but please be patient. Thanks! Can you please update me on the status of this and by when we may be able to start using this functionality for South Africa. Regards Petrus (Team Warthog) Quote Link to comment

Well, Until this happens, you can get a list by Province which is hyperlinked to the Geocaching website at Globalrat.com If the update is dated earlier than 20 January 2005, then just be warned that the server hasn't updated yet and the site isn't working correctly. Should hopefully run tonight. I'll attempt to update the site weekly as it is primarily aimed at the 2005 Challenge Quote Link to comment
