Geocaching Anonymous Gathering Fellow geocaching addicts welcome for dinner.

January, 26th 2005

Please leave an anonymous note if you are attending. Travel bugs and children welcome. Join equally addicted cachers in an evening of eating, drinking and of course sharing embarrassing geocaching stories. Avroair will be leading the meeting and taking you through the 12 Step Program.

1. Do you take your GPS everywhere you go?

2. Do you lie in bed, thinking about the cache you DNFed?

3. Do you take an alternate routes to work?

4. Have you visited a $1.00 store twice in the past week?

5. Do you get excited when you see the rubbermaid aisle at the grocery store?

6. Has your ZIP lock bag consumption gone up 3000%?

7. Have you tried to convince a non-geocacher that geocaching is cool?

8. Do you visit in-laws when a new cache pops up near their home?

9. Do you buy mints and eat them by the fistful just to empty the container?

10. Do you have your own rubber stamp?

11. Have you ever used your GPS unit like a cell phone to avoid suspicion?

12. Is your daughter named Garmin?

1. Do you take your GPS everywhere you go? Not indoors.

2. Do you lie in bed, thinking about the cache you DNFed? Naw, I just mark them as found and move on.

3. Do you take an alternate routes to work? Sure, but just to fool the government agents following me. Are they following you too?

4. Have you visited a $1.00 store twice in the past week? Yes, but not for caching - more for xmas stocking stuff.

5. Do you get excited when you see the rubbermaid aisle at the grocery store? No, but I *do* like the cereal aisle.

6. Has your ZIP lock bag consumption gone up 3000%? No comment. See question #3

7. Have you tried to convince a non-geocacher that geocaching is cool? Yes, unsuccessfully.

8. Do you visit in-laws when a new cache pops up near their home? Hmmm, hadn't thought of that!

9. Do you buy mints and eat them by the fistful just to empty the container? Does this question apply to peanut butter jars?

10. Do you have your own rubber stamp? Nope.

11. Have you ever used your GPS unit like a cell phone to avoid suspicion? Absolutely.

12. Is your daughter named Garmin? That's just sad....

Well, I failed the test (at least I think I did) - but I'm always up for a fun get-together with friends, so count me in Avro! Either day's fine.

p.s. If anyone gets the Star Ledger in NJ - check the picture on the front page of the Morris Section - I'm pretty sure I see a GPS on that motorcycle in the background.... and I'm very sure it's a local cacher....

Just a heads up, I'm still working out the details on this one, but I might post, co-post, or give guidance on a event for January 29, 2005. Things are still shifting into place and solidifying, but the location will be a stones through from the Raritan River straddling the Atlantic Coastal Plain and the Piedmont Plateau.

Without having to answer all of the questions... I'm addicted. I'm a geocahing prophet as I have introduced over 50 people to this fine sport/ hobby and approx. 10 - 12 have bought gps(s).

Hope I can attend. I will be on vacation that week, so if the date changes it may work in my favor.:blink:

13) Wouldn't want to attract varmints to the cache!

14) Hmm... Good idea!

15) Shh...

16) Duh!

17) Umm... Travel Bug Arnold Zeffel wanted to go to the Statue of Liberty. So we took him. And Farmer Bart, and Travelling Ernie...

Security getting to the Statue of Liberty is far worse than and airport I've ever been through. Fortunately, though we wee frisked and shoeless, no one questioned the travel bugs! Nor the camera, nor the GPS.

What kind of security is this?!?

1. Do you take your GPS everywhere you go?

Yes. 2 of them! B)

2. Do you lie in bed, thinking about the cache you DNFed?

No. If you're going to be awake, might as well nightcache.

3. Do you take an alternate routes to work?

Yes, I work a mile from home but sometimes the commute crosses county and state borders.

4. Have you visited a $1.00 store twice in the past week?

No.

5. Do you get excited when you see the rubbermaid aisle at the grocery store?

I don't know where the rubbermaid aisle is at the A&P.

6. Has your ZIP lock bag consumption gone up 3000%?

Still on the first box.

7. Have you tried to convince a non-geocacher that geocaching is cool?

No need. They read about it in my livejournal and get convinced on their own.

8. Do you visit in-laws when a new cache pops up near their home?

Don't have in-laws.

9. Do you buy mints and eat them by the fistful just to empty the container?

No, although I should turn these Chiggerex tubs into caches.

10. Do you have your own rubber stamp?

Yes. For Where's George.

11. Have you ever used your GPS unit like a cell phone to avoid suspicion?

No, because I do bring a cell phone too, but I prefer the cover of photography.

12. Is your daughter named Garmin?

No. Did someone name a son Lowrance? ;)

I can stop any time I want. For up to six days. :P

 There is a good chance I will attend.

I once had a problem but am recovering.

So perhaps I can sponsor anyone who truly wants to get over their addiction.

Once I know for sure I will make a note on the cache page.

If I am attending I will be bringing a Travel bug that I need to get to a Central Jersey cache so if anyone can help with that let me know. B)

Any no using WG$ to pay for the food and drink at the meeting! :(

Is that supposed to read:

And no using WG$ to pay for the food and drink at the meeting!

Personally I don't see a problem with that. WG$ are real US currency and should be accepted anywhere.

But perhaps WG$ are a contributing factor to the addiction of geocachers.

[Are you bringing your daughters Garmin and Magellan along?]

Magellan (for the record) is a boys name. Which one of you guys tied up the Parkway the other night reaching into the exact change basket to retrieve the Avroair Geo Coin you mistakenly threw in for the toll ?

It could also be a family name. Ferdinand Magellan was the first person to circumnavigate the world.

And besides, I have nothing else to pay with. Using unmarked cash? That's unheard of!

Maybe there should be a meet for Where's George Addiction.
