+murfster Posted December 9, 2004 Share Posted December 9, 2004 THE CACHE BEFORE CHRISTMAS original poem by Clement Clarke Moore adapted by Murfster and Tink007 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was caching, not even Chris-Mouse; The cache packs were hung by the entrance with care, In hopes that a new GPS soon would be there; The children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of Tupperware danced in their heads; And mum with her 'compass, and I with my map, Had just settled down with computer on lap, When a new link appeared on my screen just like that, I sprang from the chair to find where it was at. Away to the woods I flew like a flash, Decrypted the clues to look for the cache. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below, When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a cacher who said "First Finder! I'm here!, With a little old garmin, so lively and canny, I knew in a moment it must be Amazon Annie. More rapid than eagles the cachers they came, And she whistled, and shouted, and called them by name; "Now, Murfster! now, BQ! now, Olar and Tink! On, Trimbles! on Logger! now what do you think! To the top of the hill! look close to the wall! Now cache away! cache away! cache away all!" As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky, So up to the hill the cachers they flew, Found a cache full of toys, and small log book too. And then, in a twinkling, they hid it away And covered it up for another day. As I checked off the find, and was turning around, Down the trail old cache-tech came with a bound. He was camouflaged well, from his foot to his head, And his clothes were all brown, not a bit of bright red; A bundle of swag he had flung on his back, And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack. His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow; The stump of a pencil he held tight in his teeth, And head light encircled his head like a wreath; He had a broad face and a little round belly, That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly. He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf, And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself; A wink of his eye and a twist of his head, Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread; He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, Re-filled all the caches; then turned with a jerk, And laying his finger aside of his nose, And giving a nod, up the hillside he rose; He hopped into his truck and started to whistle, And away he flew down the road just like a missile. There are lots of other poems and stories out there others may want to try there hand at. If I could think of a way..I'd like to make it a virtual or locationless cache..
