+NBJPoppa Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 So, here's the story. On Saturday I met with some other cachers at a local cache that they had not found. No big deal, but we swapped a few TBs. Yesterday morning I dropped by the cache to pick up a particular TB for the TB's owner to "repair". The repair was completed last night. This morning I dropped by to re-place the TB in the cache where I had picked it up, but I found that the cache was not in the expected place. I wakled around a bit to see if it had been moved a short distance, but I didn't find it. As a result, I didn't leave the TB there. (Duh...) I then sent mail to the cache owner to let him know about the missing cache -- in case he had taken it for a maintenance run. I got an unexpected blistering response, essentially blaming me for the cache's demise. (I don't *think* I am responsible, but who can really know?) I wrote back what had happened. Now I find my logs are being deleted from the cache. To what purpose? I don't know. What to do? Ignore it and hope it gets better? Quote
+evergreenhiker! Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 (edited) Wow! Not nice of the cache owner. I'd say ignore him, but he deleted your logs. Now that's wrong. I'd just quietly repost your find and say nothing. If you argue wiht him, that'll just make things worse. Maybe he'll have cooled off a bit. If he deletes again, then something needs to be done. Edit: One mor ething, I forgot, I had a log deleted last summer when I approached a particular cache the wrong way. I just relogged my find...stating that I wasn't sure why it was deleted. Owner emailed me why but he didn't delete my log this time. Edited December 3, 2004 by evergreenhiker! Quote
+k7-wave Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Actually the cache owner deleted EVERYONE's logs! I think he was just unaware of the archival process since this was his first archived cache. Anyway as of this morning Moun10Bike has restored all of the original logs (and removed the re-posts many of us made last night). Quote
nolenator Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Was Saturday night a full moon? A lot of weird stuff happend Saturday night. Peace, Nolenator Quote
+Half-Canadian Posted December 4, 2004 Posted December 4, 2004 I found two of his other caches this morning, and while logging them tonight I see he has posted notes for both of them that they were looted today sometime after I had found them. Sounds like someone is targeting his caches for some reason. Quote
+NBJPoppa Posted December 4, 2004 Author Posted December 4, 2004 Oh, my. Just a few minutes ago I saw that he had posted a note about that on the one cache that started this thread. I sent him an e-mail, but haven't heard back yet. I haven't found any of the other caches, so I didn't know what they were, but I suddenly remembered you can see a list of them when you look at a user's statistics. Given what went on the other day, it would not surprise me if someone got a bit ticked off at having "found it" logs deleted. On the other hand, given the people I've met through geocaching, it really *would* surprise me to find someone who would act so spitefully. But then again, maybe I look on the bright side too much. +jcar Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 Hmmmmm. I was too fast to mark my US Geocoin location as unknown. Quote
+Wienerdog Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 What the heck is this all about?????? Quote
+evergreenhiker! Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 It will be interesting to see if he returns the other caches. This is wierd alright. Quote
+globalgirl Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 This is wierd alright. Indeed. Very strange. I actually planned on heading out there today - had the map and cache page printed out and ready to go, but just never got the time (yeah EGH, I was too busy checking DNF's on my new Color Blind cache - thank goodness you found it - and so easily!) ANYWAY... what's most peculiar is that the page I printed this morning distinctly shows it as a 5 star, yet presently... it's been reduced to a 1.5 star difficulty. What's with that? Did Sharkah actually rehide it - someplace even easier? None of this makes any sense... (I actually met Sharkha3 once at a FTF (not! leastwise for me) - he seems like a really nice guy.) Quote
+Wienerdog Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 The cache coords are now in the park. This morning they were in a backyard. Quote

+NBJPoppa Posted December 5, 2004 Author Posted December 5, 2004 jcar, do you know that your coin was returned? Quote
+NBJPoppa Posted December 5, 2004 Author Posted December 5, 2004 Also, I wonder if I'll get an "oops" message. Quote
+jcar Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 jcar, do you know that your coin was returned? The post by the 'new geocacher' on the 'homer' cache (which has been deleted since they gave an excellent clue to the Airport cache) said that they had the coin and knew what to do with it. It appears that they did not take the TBs. Those coins are so hard to resist. I'll probably log it back into the Airport and email the newest geocachers in the area, if I can find their userids since the log was deleted. Quote

You can go to "My Cache Page" click on "lookup/e-mail player" and contact him that way. He did say he "knew what to do" with the coin but he hasn't logged anything at all yet. Quote
+jcar Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 His user name is JohnKfeltMe. Thanks. That is what I was missing. I had seen the log last night but this morning it had been deleted. Thanks k7-wave. I will email them welcoming them to world of geocaching, and query about the coin. Quote
+jcar Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 His user name is JohnKfeltMe. ...... He did say he "knew what to do" with the coin but he hasn't logged anything at all yet. Well this evening they logged the coin. I have emailed them and told them to contact me if they have any future questions. They were a little concerned about what to do with it. I just told them to drop it in the next cache they do. So what started out as a muggled cache now looks like the addition of a couple new cachers to the local area! Quote
