Krauss-McClurg
I have around 200 back issues of SF magazines (digest-sized), and had been thinking of making them into my sig items for larger caches. They have the benefit of being all different, so even if someone found more than one of them s/he might enjoy having them. I would put labels on them for the "sig item" part of things, and a note that stories in them may not be suitable for children so that people don't hand them to their 8 year olds. :-) (They're not "adult" magazines, but you wouldn't hand a Tom Clancy novel to your 8 year old, even if it did have pretty pictures on the cover...) They'd fit nicely into ziplocs, so they'd at least have one layer. And of course, books are things I'd consider using too. OTOH, they're all paper. Is that just a recipe for disaster? +TotemLake
Probably a little of both. A great trade item, but maybe a recipe for disaster with some caches. You might want to consider setting up a "book" cache whereby you can keep it stocked with your eventual diminishing supply. Quote Link to comment
blazerfan
Sounds like a great idea... I've seen books last in a cache for a long time as long as its dry. I might hesitate putting them in tupperware type containers just because they aren't as sealed and dry but in ammo cans they will be just fine. Quote Link to comment
pdxmarathonman
Inside a ziplock bag and an ammo can they should be just fine. If you're really concerned that it may stay in the cache awhile you could toss a silica packet in with it to absorb moisture. Quote Link to comment
nfa
Hi, I have a bookswap cache that works just fine...so far. The container is a 5 gallon bucket with a watertight (ish ) lid, and each book is packed in its own freezer weight ziplock bag. I like the idea of making something a little different from your everyday cache. nfa-jamie Quote Link to comment
chubby forest monkey
SF short stories were my main pleasure reading in college. Fun-without a long term commitment. It would be a delight to come across one of those gems in a cache. Quote Link to comment
