Rather than pay a fortune for Garmin GPS leads, have a look at

These plug kits are excellent, all you'll need is some basic tools, like a screw driver and a soldering iron to assemble them. Of course you'll need the cable and plug for the other end, but they're easily found at Radio Shack/Maplin.

 

At $15/£10 for two you can't complain, I have about 4 of them and they're superb.
