Trekkin56
I recently searched eBay and found a data/power combo cable for eTrex units,, but its not made by Garmin. Has anyone bought this item, and if so, is it worth it? Here's a link to one of the auctions: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5733651100&rd=1 Any feedback is appreciated. -Rob Quote Link to comment
+KoosKoos
That's the same cable I bought from ebay and I've been quite happy with it...I don't know if it's any better or worse than any other cable, but it's held up and works great. Quote Link to comment
Trekkin56
I've also seen a package that included an AC power converter, so that I can plug it in inside the house for $21.99. Did you get that accessory, too? -Rob Quote Link to comment
+KoosKoos
Nope...I was going cheap as possible at the time...I only power up inside long enough to download waypoints, so I don't care so much about outlet power. Quote Link to comment
Trekkin56
Thanks for the input. That's one on the "good" side. Anybody else have any thoughts/opinions on these cables? Quote Link to comment
Neo_Geo
I bought my cigarette lighter power cable from 'em. Great deal, smooth transaction, good product. I'll vouch for 'em. Quote Link to comment
+Klatch
As an alternative, I have purchased cables, cases, and antennas from this site. Very good prices and top quality. This is the retail site for the company that manufactures the items. http://www.gpsgeek.com/ Quote Link to comment
nchmura
I have never ordered from here, but people swear by this guy and his cables: http://pfranc.com/ Just another option. Quote Link to comment
+Couparangus
At the risk of sounding like a "me too", I am still using the pfranc connectors I bought 3 years ago. They aren't the finest in plastic moulding, but they've held up. The biggest issue is they don't grab the cable as tightly as they might. Careful placement of a zip-lock tie helps here. +NightPilot
The newer flat Pfranc connectors for the etrex work very well. Another source of cables is PC-Mobile.com. Quote Link to comment
+welch
want to second the suggestions for gpsgeek (they sell on ebay and a yahoo store), its mostly glisson stuff, but works great. Quote Link to comment

It works great for me. Quote Link to comment

Did you get that accessory, too? -Rob I got this same setup about a year ago for my Vista. Still works great. The one problem I have is the flush mounting adapter that slides into the unit. It's sometimes takes two or three times to find the grooves. On the other hand, once in, it stays in; whereas the garmin power cable I have slides out too easily. I don't use the power converter anymore, cause I switched to rechargeable batteries, and I always have a fresh set in the charger. By the way, let me put a plug in for the second set of Panasonic rechargeable batteries from Costco I just bought. 1st set bought a year ago for $20: 6AA 2100mAh; 2AAA 750mAh batteries; and a fast AC portable charger. 2nd set I just bought for $25: 8AA 2300mAh; 2AAA 780mAh; and a AC/DC portable charger.
