+bobisculous Posted November 23, 2004 Posted November 23, 2004 I am currently using my step dads Garmin eTrex. Pretty basic, with few 'features.' But he no longer had the cable to connect it to a computer. Can I manually enter in the waypoints to a cache thats not too far from my home? I know where the wooded area is at that its at, but once there, it'l be hard to find it I suspect without having waypoints. So, can I do this, enter in coordinates somehow? It doesnt outline it in the owners manuel anywhere. Thanks, Cameron Quote
+LSUFan Posted November 23, 2004 Posted November 23, 2004 So, can I do this, enter in coordinates somehow? It doesnt outline it in the owners manuel anywhere. Thanks, I took the following excerpt from Garmins website. It was from the owners manual of the basic yellow etrex, page 15, on the right hand side, to be exact. You can create or edit a waypoint on the "EDIT LOCATION" page. From the "MARK WAYPOINT" page, highlight the position coordinates field and press "ENTER". Then follow the on-screen instructions. I hope this helps you LSUFan Quote
+Pork King Posted November 23, 2004 Posted November 23, 2004 I have an etrex and I enter all of them manually. Simply do as if you were marking a waypoint (go to the waypoint page and select MARK WAYPOINT, or just hold the ENTER button down for a few seconds). Then you can push up or down to cahnge the name, icon, elevation, etc of the waypoint. Simply select the current coordinates and the screen come up where you change them to any coordinates you want to mark, then select OK, and yer done! Quote
+Doggiewoggie Posted November 23, 2004 Posted November 23, 2004 I enter my waypoints manually--but if you're handy, you can learn how to make your own cheap cable here. Quote

And if you're not handy, you could buy a PC interface cable from GPSgeek for $7.45 (significantly less than Garmin's $38 list price for its own version of the same cable). Quote
+bobisculous Posted November 23, 2004 Author Posted November 23, 2004 Ah, kewl! Thanks everyone. I am new to all this obviously. Got two points for two caches entered in and leaving for the first one in just a few minutes. I will likely end up getting a new system before long, for I would like one with mapping, but this one works great for now. Thanks for the help. Cameron Quote
