Amber Alert Issued for 2 Indiana children

The Terre Haute Police Department and the state of Indiana issued the Amber Alert after the children were abducted at knifepoint on June 13th.

 

Collin J. Walker, 4 years of age. He's a white male. He's 3 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 43 pounds. He has short red hair and blue eyes. He has a reddish scar above the right eyebrow. He was last seen wearing a dark green T-shirt with the word 'Athletics' on the front and a white in color numeral '6' on the back. Khaki colored shorts with a stain on the right leg and Navy blue/grey/orange colored tennis shoes.

 

Monte L. Walker, 2 years of age. He's a white male. He's three feet tall. He weighs 30 pounds. He has short red ahir and blue eyes. He has a birthmark in his hair above his right ear. He was last seen wearing a white zipper shirt with blue collar and red and navy blue stripes around the bottom of the shirt, with white socks and navy blue shoes.

 

The children were last seen at 1:13 p.m. at 1695 South S.R. 46 in Terre Haute, Indiana and are believed to be in extreme danger.

 

The suspect is Katron Lance Walker who also goes by the name Ratron Walker who is a white male, 32 years-old, born June 16, 1973 with a tattoo on his head with the letters I - C - E and another unknown tattoo on the left arm, last seen wearing a white T-shirt, jean shorts and a grey ball cap. Walker allegedly took the children by knife point.

 

The suspect vehicle is a 1990 two tone grey full custom Chevrolet Van with Indiana license 84 H 9897 which was last seen traveling southbound on S.R. 46, just south of Hulman Street in Terre Haute, Indiana.

A man faces a murder charge in the death of his son after he abducted the boy and his younger brother at knifepoint in a custody dispute, police said.

 

Divers found the body of Collin Walker, 4, late Tuesday in a lake in Blackhawk, just south of Terre Haute. His throat was cut and he had puncture wounds to his chest, said Bill Bergherm, Terre Haute Police assistant chief of detectives. An autopsy was scheduled Wednesday.

 

His brother, Monte, 2, and their father, 32-year-old Katron Walker were hospitalized with knife wounds, Terre Haute police said. Police charged Katron Walker with murder and attempted murder, Bergherm said at a Wednesday news conference.

 

Police issued an Amber Alert late Tuesday afternoon after Katron Walker grabbed his sons at knifepoint from their grandfather’s backyard in Terre Haute that morning. Police at about 9 p.m. found the van Walker had been driving at a private lake in Blackhawk in southwest Vigo County and surrounded the area.

 

While dogs were searching the area, Walker ran out of an abandoned trailer and jumped into the water with the children in his arms, Bergherm said.

 

Officers jumped in after them and grabbed Monte Walker, who had cuts to his neck and puncture wounds to his chest, Bergherm said.

 

They could not find Collin Walker in the murky, dark water, so they called a dive team that found his body in about 12 feet of water, Bergherm said.

 

Monte Walker was in good condition at a hospital, Bergherm said. Katron Walker also was being treated for non-life-threatening wounds that police say were self-inflicted.

 

Walker and his sons had spent time at the home of a friend who did not know an Amber Alert had been issued for the boys, police said.

 

“She had no idea what was going on with the father and the two boys and had actually spent part of the day with them,” Terre Haute Police Sgt. David Smith said.

 

Teresa Walker said her sons were taken by her husband after she called him from work to say she wanted a divorce.

 

She had dropped the boys off at her father’s home Tuesday morning, and Katron Walker showed up there about 10 a.m., said Michael Dwyer, the boys’ grandfather.

 

Walker grabbed the boys and drove off with them in a friend’s van, police said.

 

“My sister went out and she was trying to get them back,” Dwyer said. “He threw her down and she came right back at him and he kicked her twice in the chest.”

Well since I had to work 3rd shift last night And it's like 8 in the morning.. I thought that I would Just Say6 HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!!!!!! To all of you men who had to put up with Impossible people like me... Well at least I am proud to say that I make my Dad's head hurt. lol :blink: And He loves me :o and I love him... So

Hello. New Fort Wayner Cacher(cache-er?). Figured I'd say howdy.

 

Howdy, whiskey! How did you find out about geocaching? Planned your first hunt yet? Oh, to be a nooby and have all those caches ahead of us!

I remember vaguely hearing about it a couple years ago in the newpaper. Recently, I kept getting bombarded with it since I joined Bookcrossing.com.

 

Then, out of no where, a long time family friend turned to me and goes "You know what? You should do that thing where people use GPS to find stuff that other people hid." and I replied "You mean GeoCaching?"

"YEAH! That. You should join that."

 

I figured it was a <b>sign</b>, so here I am

Haven't quite figured out which Cache to find yet. Still working on getting my GPSr. I cand always get the "IPFW: A Higher Education" one, since I know exactly where that is, and I don't need a GPSr <b>OR</b> another person to help me out. I can do it all on my own. Wonder if I would get extra credit points for being a one man team? :o

 

Any suggestions?

Whiskey Rebellion Patriot: There are probably some Ft. Wayne Cachers who would be glad to take you caching with them and show you the ropes, until you get your GPSr. Go to the Ft. Wayne Geo Board to meet the local Cachers there. DON"T mention my name. Heres a link:

Hello everybody! Another Hoosier checking in! Just started geocaching this past Monday. I logged 21 finds in my first three outings! I am using a new Garmin eTrex Legend. I got a co-worker hooked on it so now I have someone to go with! I also took Dad with me all day Saturday for Father's Day. We found 12 together. I bet he buys a GPSr soon!

Welcome to the addiction everyone!!

 

I have recently gotten my father-in-law hooked on Geocaching, but he will only go out when I come down to visit. He does not own a GPSr, yet (I'm giving him my old one) and he hasn't got a clue when it to a computer! And when I mean he doesn't have a clue, I mean he doesn't have a clue. He bragged to me for a week because he was able to read an email that I sent him. Just read it, no response, no download, just read. And he's on AOL as well........

 

So you will not see his name show up in any logs anytime soon. But he is helping me maintain my Anderson area cache and he wants to put out a cache of his own. So now if I can just get him educated on this computer thing.........

 

Anyway, for the new caches, please speak up and speak out. If you have a question, shout it out. If you want help, ask for it. If you want a clue to Madness, FORGET IT!!! Hehe.

 

Oh and the Higher Education: IPFW webcam cache can be done by one person (and it has before) if you can access the IPFW computers. And if you do it solo, you get a cookie for a bonus prive!! Just remember that we need to see that GPSr in the picture.

I have to disagree... most garmins are easier to use than the magellans... they just don't have that great of mapping features... but i'll take my little yellow etrex over an explorist anyday..

The only magellan i'd like to have is that big one that Tennison has...

 

Besides... Magellans are always like 30 feet off.

I've heard this before, but can you point me to a source that gives an actual comparison of the mapping features of both--perferrably with photos so I can see for myself? (yeah, visual learner here). I have only used Garmins, and get along just fine with both the built-in maps and the add-in maps---but if there really is something better, well as I said, visual learner here....

Are you a member of ISQ? I have enjoyed the cemeteries they have led me to. I didn't realize there were so many small cemeteries near my house! I had a friend from California once that couldn't believe how many cemeteries you see while driving around Indiana. I guess they don't have small ones everywhere there.

 

I also take it you don't like Garmin? Why not? I have used an i2 in the car for several months and was so impressed with it, I decided to stick with Garmin for Geocaching. And on another forum I usually post on, so many people recommended the eTrex Legend for starting out. What would you recommend? Since Dad will probably be getting one soon, I'd like to know your opinion.

I haven't even had a chance to try it out, yet, but I love my Garmin products. I even won the Closest to the Pin contest at the June Meet & Eat at Winghaven Nature Preserve. Of course, it also put me in dead last at the Spring Picnic, but I still say that one was rigged!!!!

Anyway, comparing Garmin to Magellan is just like comparing GM to Ford. You have your extremists, you have those that will only use one brand because they have never owned anything but, and then you have people who drive Hondas. ;)

When I am in a foreign land I always carry my namesake Geko 201 (it's extremely accurate and easier to hide - don't ask... :laughing: ) but when I am back in the good ole USA a 60CSx is my GPSr of choice! The high-sensitivity SiRF chipset is hard to match! :unsure:

RIGGED! As the offical "Placer of the Spotter" at the Spring Picnic, I take great offence(insert B) here) that you would think that the contest was rigged. Just because you could not come up with the correct amout of snickerdoddle cookies to help the judges find the offical spot does not mean the contest was rigged. :blink:

Che K and her Mighty Magellen(cough, cough) have earned the right to be called "O" Great Finder of the Little Spot in the World for a period of one year. If you think you can dethrone the Mighty K I say bring it on! ;) Of course you might want to bring a bottle of adult grape juice for the judges next year since their tastes run a little bit higher class than mine :blink:

Sheesh. Am I the only guy in in Indiana who's not out caching?

Yes.

 

We went out THREE times this week. Chris took a few days off for his birthday, since I have summer off anyway. We had some interesting adventures. Met a new cacher from KY and did a few caches with him, got yelled at by a property owner and had to take the cache with us, explored a very cool spot in the woods, visited a War Memorial, found one cache where a major landscaping project completely remove the 'replacement' cache and everything around it--except for the original container, and much much more.

 

Of course, that means it will be "forever" until we go caching again....but it was fun!
