Wow, where'd you get the great cases ???? Looks like you found ones that fit some of the hard-to-fit coins perfectly. Is there a particular model case you found, or local place to pick'em up ?

I got the cases when I ordered my Geocoin from http://www.usageocoins.com/store.htm They are $2.50 each and fit most coins well. The Washington State coin doesn't really close that well, it's too thick, but the rest fit in there fairly well.

I'll email you about the California coins...

I got my cases directly from air-tites.com at 50 cents each for the ones with the black ring. Here's the link:

I'm 99% sure that I ordered the 38mm Ring Type Air-Tite Morgan / Peace / Eisenhower Dollar size. Some coins, like the WA, GOWT, etc. were slightly larger, maybe a mm, but I just squished them in to fit.

They have a minimum order of $10 so I ordered 20 but I'm using most of them up.

Hooo! That's a nice price break from what I was paying! Thanks!

My Coins

Look what I did!  Even got Pepper's coin in there this time.  I have a page for sig item type stuff too.

Sig items

Now I just need to do one for buttons and one for cards.  Then get a front page for the whole thing.

Dave very cool how you did that , hmm...how does one do such work? Ahhh... never mind I could never do it.

Ya, with the program cd2html. I know nothing about webpages and with that program you just tell it which folder the pics are in and type in a description for each. The only problem is it just does one page at a time like that. I need to learn how to make a main page with links to the other pages on it.

But I got my button page done ;)

Hey I know I'm boring you all with my first adventures into make a webpage. But here is the end for now. I just figured out how to make a simple page with Netscape. Not too exciting to look at, but I'm pretty thrilled I actually got it to work

There are already a few more items I need to take pics of so check back for updates and to see if I can learn more web stuff.

Being new to this geocaching, I have a question. What is the normal trade item when you take a coin?  It would seem that some of the items people find end up in other caches, but some are meant to be collected. Should you have a stack of coins to leave for others to find, or just collect  them by trading other 'neat' stuff?

You should definitely have a stack of very cool panther coins to trade. :) Oh yeah, and I'll trade you and Oregon geocoin for 1 of them :)

Seriously though, few folks actually own geocoins (well, before the Washington Coin order anyway) so you just need to trade as fairly as possible. Keep in mind that some of these coins cost about $4 or $5

The other thing to keep in mind is that many geocoins are meant to be travel bugs and not to be collected.

It is up to the person that created, or purchased, the coin to decide if it is OK for someone to keep it.

The collections that you see in this thread are generally obtained by purchase or by the collector trading their own coin for another cacher's coin.

This is not really on topic (except as it relates to ND's webpage generation - sort of).

I recently downloaded google's Picasa2 free software for managing and editing pictures. It can find all pics on your computer for you and you can easily view/edit them without having to remember where they are. It displays thumbnails of all pics and movies that it finds.

Very cool. And the price is right.

I just recieved my order from www.air-tites.com for the X6 X40mm Ring 1.6" Military Challenge Coin with black or white ring for 75 cents each, and they fit perfectly. The X6 series is designed to hold thicker coins (Military Challenge coins, Casino Chips). They do require a minimum order of $10. I ordered mine late on the 5th of March and they got here on the 9th.

I think the WA Geocoins look great in this holder. :)

In surfing the web, I found Valley Coin in Golden Valley Minnesota, does anybody have any experience with them ?

Looks like they have the usual assortment of Air-Tites including some albums for those holders that look interesting. Also have a cheap $5 coin measurement device to make sure you get the right size holders.

Does anybody have a consolidated list of the sizes for all the various coins ? Since some of the sites have $10 minimums, guessing wrong on size might get a little expensive....

Lastly, is there a local Puget Sound distributor of Air-Tites with a store we can go to that anybody knows of ?

Sorry for any redundancy, but I am a budding collector with several Michigan geocoins available to trade. These coins are numbered/trackable. I also have a micro sig item that I would be interested in trading for similar quirky homemade items (or better, of course :D )... the item is a silver plated armadillo wired to a two-sided micro tag... each tag is versioned so I can track where and when I drop them, and who picks them up. Please drop me a line if interested. Gracias!

>My wife is unimpressed with my private collection of trinkets.

Add me to the list of unimpressed. I'd have to say I always thought that these coins should be kept moving and not hoarded... but obviously I'm in the minority. I haven't seen a coin in more than 2 years!

Well you can't complain to us about that. We trade with each other for these coins or buy them. About the only coins you'll see in caches are state and country ones. Wooden nickles are swapped like any other trade item, as are most personal coins.

If people were hoarding coins that had travel goals, then I would agree. However, the vast majority of geocoin collections are obtained through trades or direct purchase. I know of few cachers who keep geocoins against the wishes of the coin owners.

I've heard about some cacher's who want their geocoins back when they can't get another geocacher's personal geocoin.

Why do insist on continuing to try to stir up trouble? Grow up and drop it. Besides, I only suggested undoing our "trade" when you commented that you felt you got the worst end of the deal.
