slmslo
I tried to take some picks in a casino years ago and was quickly told to stop. But if you use say a phone camera and are very quick you might get away with it. I decided to drop the TB at a cache in Vegas. The ODDS are good that someone else will be able to deal with this dilemma. But thanks for verifying what I suspected. Quote Link to comment
slmslo
Those cache containers sound like great micros... Use them wisely! 75 whew! I'll have to get some from you at the next shindig. Maybe you & yours can come over to the Condor Lookout event I just put up for next weekend. Hi Mountain Condor Lookout 10-Year Anniversary Darn, I won't be in town for this event. I've done a little birding and I've read some books about the condor project. I developed an interest in condors and all threatened species after I got involved rehabilitating injured and orphaned wildlife in SLO county. I took in a Peregrine Falcon once. Unfortunately it died. So this event would have been a perfect blending of a few of my hobbies/interests (i.e. geocaching/birding/wildlife rescue). Well, I'm sure there will be another wonderful opportunity to meet fellow SLO geocachers. Quote Link to comment

pointsaljim
Just wanted to say that yesterday's geocaching learning event taught to students of the OLLI extension program of Cal Poly was nicely done by Geo_cats and Oreo Pony! I think several of the students have already registered on geocaching.com. The event was in Irish Hills and the weather was very cooperative: sunny, but not hot or windy. I unfortunately do not remember all of your names, but welcome Ohsoslo and mother oak One thing we learned, is that most of us are all Garmin users, we couldn't figure out how to get Ohsoslo's Magellan to operate P.S. We also placed a new cache in the Irish Hills, "Olli, this is another fine mess you've gotten us into". Look for it to be posted soon!!! Edited June 12, 2006 by pointsaljim Quote Link to comment

4BACKRD
Hello Poison Oak Cachers. My caching partner Babaganoosh just graduated from Cal Poly, which means that I won't be in the San Luis Obispo area as often as I normally am. Due to this, I wanted to know if anyone has the desire to adopt my Costco Hiden Gate Cache, GCQTF6, before I archive it. Besides a new log, it has hardly required any maintenance. Just thought I'd throw it out there to see if there is any interest. Let me know. Quote Link to comment

BooBooBee
Howdy All! Long time no chat. It's been a bit hectic down here, but PointSalJim has been keeping things in order for area cachers. (Thanks HEAPS, PSJ!) When it finally came time to log back on to the group, I couldn't get in! It seems groundspeaks' changes included software that couldn't cope with my old password (sigh). So...what's new? Where has everyone been? (I heard something about caching events going on and wondered why the heck I hadn't heard...goes back to that password failure...ah well). It's MIGHTY quiet out here! Quote Link to comment

KKTH3
Heading back to my old school, CPSUSLO, in August and staying for a week. We will be bringing the GPSr with us and probably have a bit of time for caching. I'll probably take my boy on some of the hikes I used to regularily do when I was in college and we may even take my wife's aunt on a hunt or two, but that would have to be a terrain 1 event. So what are the must-do caches? Anything we should avoid? Anyway, looking forward to our upcoming trip - haven't been through the area for at least 5 years. I'm sure a lot has changed. +Geo_cats
Just a suggestion to other POC (and other readers). The bookmark list feature is useful in that you can bookmark your favorite caches and make them public so that when a person views one of the caches that is in your favorites list they can see that it is a favorite and they can click on the link and see your other favorites. This is a good way to help other cachers to find the best caches in the area if they are visitors short time or just your fellow cachers wanting to visit the better caches first. I would like to encourage you to go over the list of all your found caches in your profile and bookmark the ones that you think are terrific. (Don't be shy, list some of your own if you think they are good ones.) Quote Link to comment

pointsaljim
A new cacher emailed me asking for a list of recommended kid-friendly caches that involve a hike of some sort. I thought I'd share my response here. Perhaps others could add some, too. (I'm not so strong in the north county and i know there are some fantastic hike caches there.) Here's my response to him: Well, it looks like my premium membership has expired, so I can't bookmark. So here's a list instead. Look for these waypoints for some kid-friendly walks to caches. Some are difficult, some are easy (too easy). My favorite is probably Reservoir Canyon (long hike up creek in beautiful canyon), though just about anything by Maasmen is fantastic kid fodder! GCKYC0 (A fantastic adventure for avid hikers. Bring a rope. Keep close eye on kids. MY 5 year old couldn't do this one because of a BIG drop, but with some help this year, I think she could do it.) GCK00W GCJMZ9 GCJ7GT GCMNFE GCMRZ1 GCK43Y GC8278 GCK9RZ GCN983 (Kid-friendly? Oh...I don't know. It's a LONG hike. Perhaps an overnight would work here, though I'd set camp in the saddleback meadow rather than at the peak.) GCMX8Y GCJQRD GCJ0JT GCM8R7 GCHHKP GCHGA3 GCH87G GCKGT6 GCKHM3 GCJGZF GCKRE3 GCKVFK GCKVEJ GCMD4Y GCM0EX GCMG9G GCH6YX GC6ACD (the park here is nice, the walk is nice, but the cache location seemed dangerous to me. Then again, we didn't FIND the cache, so we may have been a bit off...still a nice walk) GCMM32 GCMVEY WOW...too bad the bookmarks didn't work! I'll have to save this list after having taken the time to create it! Will post to Poison Oak Cachers forum, too. Best of luck, Jen/BooBooBee www.BestFamilyAdventures.com 1.) Actually, I for one find poison oak to be very pretty, especially at this time of year when it has all of it's colors. That said, I USE to occasionally aquire semi-bad cases, sometimes even requiring me to have to get treatment from a doctor, BUT, I HAVE AN ANNOUNCEMENT TO MAKE: FOR OVER 3 MONTHS NOW I HAVE BEEN USING AN ORAL HOMEOPATHIC POISON OAK PROTECTOR AND HAVE NOT HAD ONE CASE OF PO, even though I KNOW that I have brushed up against it with bare sweaty skin on several occasions. The provider of this MAGICAL potion is none other than THE BETTER HALF OF GEO_CATS, who happens to work for the doctor who concocted it. It even actually has some poison oak in the elixir! +BooBooBee
Anyone interested in going to the Whaler's Island cache on Monday, Nov 6? Oooh! Oooh! We want to go! We want to go! However, what is the pace going to be. The girls can be pretty fast now, but I don't know if this is a jog n' grab to beat the tide or if this is one that we can meander. I'd love to grab this cache, and doing it with the group would be awesome! Come on Cats n' Pony! Quote Link to comment
BooBooBee
Oh yeah, and one more kid friendly cache....BooBooBee's Fairpark Find in Santa Maria. Someone might make a case for BooBooBee's Rock-n-Roll cache, SINCE SHE DID PLACE IT WITH HER VERY YOUNG KIDS, but that's only because BooBooBee's quite an experienced Jeeper.......I hiked to Rock-n-Roll cache and almost didn't make it back alive!!! I DID forget to include my own caches in the kid friendly list. Duh! (Blame it on the hair.) All BooBooBee caches are kid friendly, though the hat trick (KL&N) requires good set of legs and was NOT set with my small children in tow. Rock n' Roll is doable with an older teen with spirit (or a 4x4 with high clearance and kids with ability to walk a short distance on dirt). Thanks, PointSalJim! Quote Link to comment
BooBooBee
Are the poison oak cachers partial to poison oak or something? When we were coming up with a name, it occured to us that no cacher on the Central Coast goes unscarred by PointSalJim's "pretty plant." The name was actually suggested by my husband (who's TERRIBLY allergic to poison oak) under his breath, but I thought it was funny, so I suggested it aloud. To our surprise, the group liked it! (I guess we could all relate!) The intention kind of reflects the jocular spirit of our group. Quote Link to comment
