The wife and I are going to Santa Catalina island over Thanksgiving, anyone got any recommendations? Hopefully we'll do some not-too-strenuous hiking, so any on a good trail would be preferable. Cheers!

Klemmer and TeddyBear Mama recently mowed the area and have a real nice write up with a link to a track log. See this SCG forum thread for more info.

So they do, thanks for the link! Not sure we'll go for a ~12 mile hike ourselves, but we're there for 3 nights so we could probably do that lot in 2 goes.

We caught a glimpse of the island from the top of Mount Soledad this morning, which only happens on the clearest of days.

I went to Catalina last August and did some Geocaching.

There are a fair amount of Geocaches on Catalina, but most are hard to get to. Of the 19 caches on Catalina Island, most only can be found by either a boat or a doing 5 Star type hikes. Interior Catalina is very restricted. Golf Carts, the primary means of transportation on Catalina, are NOT allowed out of the city limits of Avalon. You can't rent cars to go outside of Avalon. Tour buses don't usually stop long enough to find any caches.

So there are only three caches that are realistic to find (unless you have a boat, scuba gear, or want to do some 5 Star hiking): "Avalon View", "Off Tour in Avalon", and "Anniversary Cache"
