MoseyingAlong Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 We are new to geocaching and are trying to come up with a fun signature item. We really enjoy the trading part of geocaching and want to leave things that others will enjoy. Our first idea for a signature item involves Silly Putty. We would buy a 5 lb. block of the original Silly Putty and put it into easter eggs or film canisters ourselves (this way we could have bigger portions than normal and save money on packaging). We would make a signature label to put on the container. What do you think of this idea? Would you take it? Would your kids like it? Do you think it's a good idea? Do you have any other ideas for containers? We welcome any feedback you might have. Thanks for your input! We would also be happy to hear what other people do for their signature items. Quote
+New England n00b Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 The only potential problem is that Silly Putty is rather odiferous, and may well attract an animal to the cache and tear it apart. Signature items = great smelly items = not so much Nice idea, though.... perhaps a different item might be better suited... Quote
+Torry Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 I gotta go with the psychotic cat on his one. Great idea but go with a different item in the can or egg. A CiTo (Cache in, Trash out) bag, alcohol wipes, insect repellant wipes, spare batteries or something similar. Or, set up the can or egg as a ready-to-go micro with log sheet and pencil stub. Quote
+CapnJackSparrow Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 (edited) Silly Putty and put it into easter eggs Oh My! Ifyou're using the term "Easter eggs" you must have missed this entire forum post: Cache this! Six pages long in just two days! Edit: Ok now you're just instigating!! Where in the world do you buy 5 pounds of silly putty. Thats an awful lot of comics sections to play with.... Quote
+fly46 Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 If you're going to do it, I think that you need to also invest in shrink wrap film. You put it around an item and hit it with a hair dryer and it will shrink and be just about as good as anything you'd buy shrink wrapped. That might help the smell problem. Quote
Midnight Rider Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 Im toying with the idea of including a CD of my favorite group in the larger cache boxes. Quote
