+lakedawgs
Using two serial cables and a serial gender changer in between, can you transfer waypoints between 2 Garmin 60 series GPSr? The wiring is easy, I just do not know how to initiate the transfer, if at all possible. Thanks, Lakedawgs Quote Link to comment
+reepicheep
I don't have one, but I can tell you that usually devices do not have the code to control both sending and receiving data. They usually act as clients to a program on a PC that does all the control. If someone else knows differently, I'd like to know. An alternate might be connecting to a PocketPC/Palm, downloading the waypoints, connecting to the other unit, uploading the waypoints. Kenneth Quote Link to comment
Neo_Geo
Assuming that you could rig a cable and properly connect the two, there's no menu option on a GPSr to send data out or receive data. As Kenneth mentioned, there has to be a program to control the GPSr to either send or receive data. Quote Link to comment
+Jamie Z
Not intended as a flame or yet-another-chance-to-bash-Garmin-- The Magellan Meridian series can easily accomplish this task, albeit without cables. A quick SD card swap allows Meridian users to exchange waypoints and tracks in the field. I've found it useful a handful of times. Unfortunately, no company has offered a handheld unit with the flexibility of a memory card since the Meridian, so my upgrade options, when I finally do it, are slim. Jamie Quote Link to comment
+lakedawgs
I figured this could not be done. Kenneth, you menion maybe transferring waypoints to a handheld. Does anyone have any info on connectability with Garmin units to a palm device? thanks, Lakedawgs Jamie, you are correct, the SD card in the Magellen units is very cool. If the 60C had that option, it would be untouchable. Edited October 21, 2004 by lakedawgs Quote Link to comment

Not too limited All Lowrance iFinder models have this capability. In fact, they've had MMC/SD card capability longer than the Magellan Meridian models. Quote Link to comment
+Jamie Z
All Lowrance iFinder models have this capability. I knew this when I typed my post, but I ignored it mostly because as long as I've been a member of this forum and read about geocaching and GPSs, the memory card feature of the Lowrance units has been mentioned only a handful of times. Specifically, the few times that I've used the SD card swap trick with my Meridian would have been useless if I owned a Lowrance. Despite its flexibility, trading waypoints is moot if you don't know anyone else who owns Lowrance. Jamie Edited October 22, 2004 by Jamie Z Quote Link to comment
+GOT GPS?
GPS II, IIplus, III, and IIIplus were able to do waypoint transfers between them. Quote Link to comment
+Rubberhead
I have a fixed mount Garmin GPSmap 162 "networked" with a removable GPSmap 60CS on my boat. The GPSmap 162 has menu options to send or receive waypoints, routes, tracks and almanac data. This works wonderfully with my GPSmap 60CS. However, I don't think a 60CS to 60CS connection will work because there are no menu options to initiate such a transfer. But, It's only a software add so Garmin may be willing to incorporate this feature if enough people ask. I can only imagine that it would help them sell more GPS units and cables if they enabled this transfer. It would be very handy if geocaching in the woods with friends or having met other geocachers.
