Bob&TheGang Posted October 9, 2004 Posted October 9, 2004 I think it is time that New York had it own Geocoin. I grew up in New York and lived there until I was 24, but I now live in San Diego, CA. for the last 14 years. The Dillon Gang and myself were the ones who designed and got the California Geocoin minted. So I have a fair amount of experience with the whole process. I thought I would start this thread to see what interests there is for a New York Geocoin. Then we would need some input on some design ideas. Once we get some ideas, we can start posting some designs here on this thread. The web link below shows many of the different State and personalized Geocoins minted. www.geocities.com/team_fisur/geocoins/index.html Quote

Bob&TheGang Posted October 11, 2004 Author Posted October 11, 2004 Me TOO! I'll start downloading pics of hookers and stuff. There we go, gross over generalization of life in New York. Maybe the Geocoin should have a design of a a Geocahing in an urban area giving someone the finger. Though in all seriousness, I would have through that this thread would have generated more interest. Isn't New York the second most populated state? So where are all those New Yorker Geocachers? I was assuming the " " after my line would let everyone know I'm joking. Quote
Quoddy Posted October 11, 2004 Posted October 11, 2004 I sit here with several Texas Geocoins and several more in "circulation" that can no longer be logged since the site dissappeared. There's more to it than just minting them if they are to be trackable. Quote
Old Bet Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 I start our from ignorance -- I have not yet encountered a geocoin in any of the 14 caches we have found -- but, if we have two sides to work with, I would suggest an urban scene on one side and a wilderness on the obverse. Too many people forget (or never knew) that there is more to New York than concrete; indeed, some of the stereotyping may be leaking into this thread. Living in the suburbs, The Old Bet Brigade is sort of between the two New Yorks, and both ought to be represented, I think. Quote
Bob&TheGang Posted October 23, 2004 Author Posted October 23, 2004 New York is such a divers state. Obvious places like New York City, Buffalo, Syracuse, Rochester are very urban, but there are parts of upstate New York that are very rural too. I was thinking of a two different designs for each side. Side 1 would have the New York City skyline in the background with the Status of Liberty in the foreground with Geocacher walking around Liberty Island with a GPS in hand. Side 2 would have an outline of New York State with possibly a picture of Niagara Falls and some mountains that depict the Adirondacks. Again have a picture of a Geocacher (maybe even a family of geocachers) walking across the state. As for words on the Geocoin, obvious one side should say "New York" and the word "Geocaching" with the year printed. I am not sure what the other side should say. I know New York's motto is the "Empire State". It would be nice to come up with some saying that would make this Geocoin unique. Now all I have to do is put this idea into some sort of design (which I have no skill in doing). I am trying to convince the Dillon Gang (the guy who designed the California Geocoin) to work on a design for the New York Geocoin. Quote
The Dillon Gang Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 Per Bob's request to see if we can generate interest.... Quote
KC0GRN Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 The concept looks cool. Any word on if these will become a reality? Quote
