Firth of Forth Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 I'm hoping to organise another SGDO for Sunday November 7th, so keep a look out for it and keep your diaries free for that day. Quote
Firth of Forth Posted October 7, 2004 Author Posted October 7, 2004 (edited) Now now Nick, it was your suggestion to do the WoL, and we've done that one. No, I already have plans for something a little more challenging in the Angus Glens - not too far from you. However, I do also have an idea for a nice sea breezy coastal route for next summer, to include the chain walk, so that we can avoid those nasty midgies. Edited October 7, 2004 by Firth of Forth Quote
Jodel Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 I had to miss WoL due to work, but I'm off on the 7th so fingers crossed, I should be there. Quote
Teuchters Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 Ok then, I'm cycling from Auchallater.... Quote
Papakas Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 Have a quick flick thru your cycle skills manual before you go Nick and you might make it out of town before falling off! Quote
Team Ullium Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 Can't wait to see what you have in mind Firth of Forth Most Sunday's are OK for Angela and I anyway ... so we will look forward to whatever it is Ullium. Quote
Pooter Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 I think that we're talking about Glen Doll and Tolmount here, aren't we? Quote
Eckington Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 I'm hoping to organise another SGDO for Sunday November 7th, so keep a look out for it and keep your diaries free for that day. .........................flying free Quote
Firth of Forth Posted October 8, 2004 Author Posted October 8, 2004 Thanks to a speedy response by Eckington, the event cache has been approved and can be found at: 3rd Scottish Geocachers' Day Out - Jocks Road Quote
roolku Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 I'm hoping to organise another SGDO for Sunday November 7th, so keep a look out for it and keep your diaries free for that day. This is not fair. I will still be in some foreign country then. Maybe I can change my flight - or maybe I should get my priorities right? Anyway. Have a great day! Roolku P.S. There are some cracking caches in/around Sydney. I am sure you (FoF) would have liked this one. (NOT!) Roolku Quote
Firth of Forth Posted October 8, 2004 Author Posted October 8, 2004 Sorry Robert, but if you will go gallivanting around the world for weeks on end...... No, I don't think I would have wanted to do that particular Sydney cache! Hope you're having a good time down under. Certainly looks like you're finding plenty of time for caching! Quote
Team Ullium Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 (edited) Ah! unfortunately my enthusiasm is greater than my level of fitness FoF Jocks Road would be just a bit too much for me I fear and reluctantly I won't be there....but I wish everyone a great day out and hope the weather is kind to you all Ullium. Edited October 8, 2004 by Ullium Quote
Firth of Forth Posted October 8, 2004 Author Posted October 8, 2004 You don't have to do the walk to join in the event at the hotel afterwards Ullium. You could do some more gentle caching nearby and meet up at the hotel at 4pm - which is when the event 'officially' starts! Quote
snaik Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 There is Angus Glens - Peter Pointer which isnt far from Clova, plus if you come in from Blairgowrie you can get a couple of the Cateran Trail ones, that would keep you busy! Snaik Quote
Team Ullium Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 Hahahah....thanks guys....you don't just how much it got to me that you all climbed the Ben and I had to stay behind I was even going to try it on the Saturday as I suspected that the pace that you cachers would set might be too much for me and if I did it alone I could really take my time....only the threat of D-I-V-O-R-C-E brought me back to my senses Not that I didn't enjoy my day....but that was mainly because of the great company of Allieballie and wee Jake .... otherwise I would have felt very out of it...if you see what I mean? Also, driving that distance with my gammy leg might present a problem if I tried to drive there and back in the same day....so that would involve B&B on Saturday night to break the journey up like I did at the last one. The cost of B&B in that area could be a wee bit above my means But no worries....there will be other occasions when my washing-up brush will once again be raised aloft in triumph....right FoF? Ullium. Quote
Firth of Forth Posted October 8, 2004 Author Posted October 8, 2004 (edited) What a shame if you can't come Ullium. However I would imagine that there will be others who don't fancy the long walk, and will just turn up at the hotel - where the rates are very reasonable (£30 incl breakfast). But there will, I'm sure, be other SGDO events in the near future. What was it you said you needed a washing up brush in your backpack for again? Edited October 8, 2004 by Firth of Forth Quote
Pharisee Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 Wish I was coming with ya... but a third 1000 mile round trip this year is a bit beyond my means Good luck with the day out anyway and I'll do my best to meet up with you all again next year. Quote
Team Ullium Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 (edited) What was it you said you needed a washing up brush in your backpack for again? Yes my explanation at the time got sort of drowned out amidst the howls of laughter OK (face straightened!!)....I use it to clean my boots before entering inns and hostelries in search of sustenance instead of caches !! (OK OK Angela made me do the dishes before we left in the morning and I didn't realise it was still in my hand when I got in the car ) BTW in I'm certainly relieved that no one cottoned on to HH's remark which was also drowned out....there was nothing in that bag I need be ashamed of....washing-up brushes aside Ullium. P.S. £30 B&B ??...now that does surprise me....er Angela...where are you?? Edited October 8, 2004 by Ullium Quote
snaik Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 Or there is the Glen Clova Hotel Bunkhouse @ £10 per person per night. Accommodation only!! Breakfast £5 BunkHouse Quote
Haggis Hunter Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 Looks good FoF, Unfortunately it's another working weekend for me so I will have to see what I can get arranged. Fingers crossed. Quote
allieballie Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 ....but that was mainly because of the great company of Allieballie and wee Jake .... Did someone mention my name?! Well Ullium, I don't want to force you into our wonderful company again (ha! ha!)but.... it's not likely that Jake will be able to travel this distance, so we would be thinking of doing some of the less strenuous ones. I was going to try some of the Angus Glens ones in the coming weeks, but I'd be more than happy to leave them till the 7th November if you thought it would be a good alternative to doing Jocks Road. Go on... I bet there won't be any rockhopping (or midgies) this time! Quote
Team Ullium Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 Thanks Allieballie I've emailed you..... and who knows...you may again be blessed my infallible sense of mis-direction OK OK I'll follow you Ullium. Quote
Team Ullium Posted October 11, 2004 Posted October 11, 2004 Angela and yours truly will be there!!...given we get B&B at the Clova Hotel? (emailed them this morning....awaiting reply!) We are looking forward to meeting you all again (come on HH...don't you feel a case of the sniffles coming on for those days? ) Now comes the fun bit....the planning of activities for Saturday and Sunday....I thought I might combine option 2 with option 5 Seriously are there any others who might be taking a slightly easier option or options?? Ullium Quote
Firth of Forth Posted October 11, 2004 Author Posted October 11, 2004 See you there Sat evening then Ullium, as I too have booked a room. Quote
Team Ullium Posted October 11, 2004 Posted October 11, 2004 Great FoF Angela is just off the phone to me to say that she has booked us up also (I thought I better let her do the final arrangements in case I got it wrong somewhere ) I can see quite a few cachers taking advantage of the very reasonable charges for B&B...so we should have a good evening get together before the off on Sunday Ullium. Quote
Firth of Forth Posted October 13, 2004 Author Posted October 13, 2004 Watch out for two new caches by Team Clova - one close by the hotel and the other probably in Glen Isla. Quote
DaBeEm Posted October 16, 2004 Posted October 16, 2004 I'm coming up to Scotland in November for a caching holiday (from 4th November), so I will probably join you for this. I shall be staying outside Perth for a week, partly to do some of my friends caches (Perth Pathfinders), but also to travel further afield. Can anyone recommend other caches - (I particularly liked the look of the the Water of Leith selection) or recommend those not to do! I hope I don't look as if I am gatecrashing this topic - this is my first post ever - I don't really know what I am doing! - would I be better starting a new topic for this enquiry? Thanking you in advance for any help you can give me. Quote
snaik Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 Ah! friends of the Perth Pathfinders you say!!! dont think you'll get to far from Perth, doing there dastardly caches, plus Jodels BrainBuster!!!!! that should keep you North of the Forth! Hope to see you on Tolmount (Jocks Road) on the 7 Nov or later at the Glen Clova Hotel Snaik Quote

Firth of Forth Posted October 23, 2004 Author Posted October 23, 2004 (edited) It might be a good idea for those who wish to do Option 1 in a group to post a note with their intention, to make sure that we don't leave without you! Edited October 23, 2004 by Firth of Forth Quote
snaik Posted October 29, 2004 Posted October 29, 2004 (edited) I am still going to Auchallater for anyone wanting a lift back to Glen Clova Hotel, have space for 3, going tomorrow to recce routes. and maybe visit Spittal of Glenshee Hotel again. Edited October 29, 2004 by Snaik Quote
snaik Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 Have placed a second cache on Jocks Road at the edge of Glen Doll Forest, just waiting for it to be approved. Quote
Team Ullium Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 Well done Snaik much appreciated Ullium. Quote
Firth of Forth Posted October 30, 2004 Author Posted October 30, 2004 Now Ullium, there's no excuse for not reaching the 200 mark by next Sunday!! Looks like I will definitely be buying you that drink! Quote
Team Ullium Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 I better go on the wagon as the americans say...so that I can do justice to your kind and thoughtful offer Firth of Forth Do they serve whisky in buckets at the Glen Clova Hotel?? I have warned Angela she might be driving back to Glasgow Ullium. Quote
snaik Posted October 31, 2004 Posted October 31, 2004 Be aware, very aware of the 3rd Glen Clova Grouse & Pheasant Kamikaze Squadron (with token assitance from the Rabbits) poised at the roadside waiting till you get close then flinging themselves at your bumper. They seem to work in pairs, while one attracts your attention the other make a dash for the bumper! Been Halfords and replaced both my spotlights. Nice game pie though Quote
Firth of Forth Posted October 31, 2004 Author Posted October 31, 2004 Ok Snaik, I've been meaning to ask: What's a 'ceithern'? I presume that a member of the Wild Geese is someone who has had the privilege of completing Way of the Wild Geese? I think that its you and me meeting at Tolmount next Sunday. No other confirmations for Option 1 so far. If I bag a pheasant or grouse on my way there, will you show me how to prepare it for the pot? Quote

I was adopted by Clan MacRae as a Mercenary and take part in the Battle of Sherrifmuir once a year The Wild Geese were the Irish Jacobite's after defeat in 1690 moved to France and fought for all the European Armies, and many thousands fought on both sides of the American Civil War. A good movie is Gods and Generals about the Civil War show you Irish against Irish. All set for Tolmount. +perth pathfinders Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 Count us in for Option 1 - and we might bag a few Munro's while we are there just to kill a bit of time!! Who's carrying the stretcher?? See you all there Quote

Haggis Hunter Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 Finally managed to sort a few things out, I will be travelling up on Sunday morning. I don't know if I will be doing option 1 or 2 yet, Snaik If I consume the oxygen will that make room for me ?? P.S. Anyone got any idea how long a drive it is from Edinburgh. Quote
Team Ullium Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 Great news HH... It was the thought of extracting a drink from me that swung it? right? Ullium. Quote
Firth of Forth Posted November 4, 2004 Author Posted November 4, 2004 Anyone who wishes to join those of us who are staying at Glen Clova Hotel for breakfast on Sunday morning is welcome to do so. It's £5 for breakfast, but I need to let them know of approximate numbers, so please post a note on the cache page if you'd like to do this. Quote
