Quoddy Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 Since it's a Saturday as usual I can't make it. I have done 7 of the 14 and they are pretty good ones.
briansnat Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 Nice caches but it's kind of hard to string them together in a loop.
Tiffany's Slaves Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 Nice caches but it's kind of hard to string them together in a loop. Brian is correct here - some of them will require a short drive to reposition. BUT... if you park in the FIRST Mahlon Dickerson parking area (when coming from the North it is on your RIGHT)... You might want to try them in this order Parking Lot... 1. Driving Boulders 2. Highest Point in Morris County 3. David's Rock Collection 4. TRL Highlands Hike 5. Broken back in the Woods 6. TRL for the Love of the Highlands 7. Recycled Cache Then Backtrack part of the way 8. Rooster's Potato Head Cache Back to Parking Lot Then 9 Needful Things VI 10 Remembering Gerima Drive a couple of miles South for 11 Autumn at Saffins Pond Then, a short drive or a bit of a hike to 12 Uncle Tom's Treerock Cache Then, Drive back North - get 13 Ski Bowl (tough climb after doing this much hiking though) and finally 14 Creative Cache II - Might be pretty tough but not much of a hike. This route is from Tiffany's Head Slave and is based on having done 12 of the 14 listed ... From the Chief Assistant... the Head Slave's route seems to be correct but she does not think that doing all 14 in one day is feasible
Squealy Posted October 9, 2004 Posted October 9, 2004 I was scolded the last time I posted about the REAL Tiffany - so I won't post her again. 14 in one day - shouldn't be a problem - hey Dave - you have the track log for this one???? However, I should be in. Where the hell is this place?
JMBella Posted October 9, 2004 Posted October 9, 2004 (edited) Yeah, where the hell is this place? Neil, you have my permission to post the real tiffany. Oh.. wait.. wrong board. Where ever it is I should be in. I say we just drive to all of them and forget the hike. Edited October 9, 2004 by JMBella
briansnat Posted October 9, 2004 Posted October 9, 2004 (edited) Its here: Or for a slightly better map (Hey, I have a lot of unfounds there ): Edited October 9, 2004 by briansnat
Team DEMP Posted October 10, 2004 Posted October 10, 2004 Would Sunday be better for people? Not for me - I'll be at the Giants game on Oct 24th.
avroair Posted October 11, 2004 Author Posted October 11, 2004 (edited) Yeah, but there is a Maryland event on the Saturday! AND the wife wants to go caching in Rhode Island... Edited October 11, 2004 by avroair
Squealy Posted October 11, 2004 Posted October 11, 2004 Sunday is no good - perhaps the LI crew will head out on Sat...
K4CacheCrew Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 What time are we looking at doing this thing, I have to work in the am for a bit...
briansnat Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 Sunday is no good - perhaps the LI crew will head out on Sat... Be sure to hit the ones on the former Edison property. Some pretty cool ones there. The Edison Dark Rock cache is particularly cool.
avroair Posted October 13, 2004 Author Posted October 13, 2004 We ain't doing Edison, we are doing Dickerson! Saturday should be fine. 14 caches. Probably start around 9 a.m. or 10 a.m. depending. Hey Helmut are you in?
Team Rampant Lion Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 (edited) We ain't doing Edison, we are doing Dickerson! You're not avoiding my bear, are you? Edited October 13, 2004 by Team Rampant Lion
GeoKender Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 We ain't doing Edison, we are doing Dickerson! You're not avoiding my bear, are you? Looks to me that bear is wearing a location collar.

avroair Posted October 13, 2004 Author Posted October 13, 2004 Looks to me that bear is wearing a location collar. No, that's a travel bug dogtag! Try reading the number and you can log the travel bug!!! Edison might be right next to Dickerson, but we only have ONE day. The edison caches will take all day by themselves, besides I am saving those for another loopy day!
Team Rampant Lion Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 We ain't doing Edison, we are doing Dickerson! You're not avoiding my bear, are you? Looks to me that bear is wearing a location collar. No location collar just the effects of a crappy disposable camera. Of all the days to find I did not recharge the digital camera...
avroair Posted October 15, 2004 Author Posted October 15, 2004 Sweet. We can meet at 9 a.m. in the FIRST Mahlon Dickinson parking lot (9:10 for me since I always seem to be late!). On your right. Parking Lot... 1. Driving Boulders 2. Highest Point in Morris County 3. David's Rock Collection 4. TRL Highlands Hike 5. Broken back in the Woods 6. TRL for the Love of the Highlands 7. Recycled Cache Then Backtrack part of the way 8. So, who is with me?
Team DEMP Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 So, who is with me? Saturday October 23rd, count me in. Sunday October 24th, no good.
Squealy Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 Looks like I will be in. How far into Jersey is this place? What time do I need to be up on my day off???
Team Rampant Lion Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 Looks like I will be in. How far into Jersey is this place? What time do I need to be up on my day off??? It's pretty far in. From Nutley, NJ it will take approximately 45 minutes on a Saturday morning. Take 80 west to Route 15 north to Weldon Road.
Squealy Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 It's pretty far in. From Nutley, NJ it will take approximately 45 minutes on a Saturday morning Nutley, huh? My left or right?
Team DEMP Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 (edited) Looks like I will be in. How far into Jersey is this place? What time do I need to be up on my day off??? It's about 46 miles from the GW Bridge (which I think is how you've been coming across from NY). Here's what MapSource shows once you hit the GW... 1. I-95 S and drive west 2. Keep left onto New Jersey Tpke S 3. Exit left onto ramp onto I-80 Express Ln W 4. Take exit 34B to the right onto Hwy 15 N 5. Take right ramp onto Weldon Rd 6. MahlonDickerson So you want 80 West to exit 34B which is about 38 driving miles from the GWB. Off 80 it's another 8 miles. Maybe you can stay over at Mark's house Edited October 15, 2004 by Team DEMP
avroair Posted October 15, 2004 Author Posted October 15, 2004 Should be no problem at that time in the morning... if you want to skip Manhatten, take 87 to the 287 then 23 N. Good luck!
briansnat Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 Should be no problem at that time in the morning... if you want to skip Manhatten, take 87 to the 287 then 23 N. Good luck! I think 23 north is the better route from NYC/LI. It's about 45 minutes from the GWB without traffic.
Team Rampant Lion Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 It's pretty far in. From Nutley, NJ it will take approximately 45 minutes on a Saturday morning Nutley, huh? My left or right? Sorry! My own limited perpsective. If I'm not geocaching or mountain biking, I'm chained to a desk in Nutley . It's my reference point outside the wilds of NW NJ.
JMBella Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, crap! I got a freakin wedding in Saturday. Someone make me a track log please. Thanks.
Team DEMP Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 We still on for this for Saturday? I'm set to go.
avroair Posted October 21, 2004 Author Posted October 21, 2004 It's ON! I have been challenged to complete all 14!!!
Team DEMP Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 It's ON! I have been challenged to complete all 14!!! Shouldn't be an issue at all since we don't have to go slow for Squealy . I was looking at the others that are also around the area so when we finish early we can hit them up too.
Squealy Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 Bring the drugs, Dave... What the hell are you talking about, slow??? You must mean JMBella...
avroair Posted October 22, 2004 Author Posted October 22, 2004 Yep, nothing to slow us down. The orginal keg krew!
avroair Posted October 22, 2004 Author Posted October 22, 2004 Does anyone have parking coordinates?
macatac1961 Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 (edited) Does anyone have parking coordinates? No but this map might help. trail map Edited October 22, 2004 by macatac1961
briansnat Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 (edited) New one there. Coords for this one should bring you reasonably close (within 1/2 mile) to where Avro wants to park. At least you will pass by the parking area if you come from the north. I'd come along but I think Skigirl and I might give Aye Carumba!! a shot today. We have the time and the weather looks decent. +The Frantic Cachers Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 Hope you have fun Brian. Wish I could join you but work sucks and have been put on 6 days. My only day off my wife has assigned me to do laundry so I haven't had the time. Sorry for not emailing you.

avroair Posted October 24, 2004 Author Posted October 24, 2004 Had a great hike with Squealy, Jonboy and Dave of Team DEMP. Met Team Rampant Lion on the mountain placing a cache and newcomers Team Ireland at one of the caches, they had just run into a bear!!! Tiffany's Chief Assistant doesn't think this is feasible It's doable! Full day of a total of 15 caches - not sure what the tracklog said, but it was about 10-11 miles roundtrip. 1. Driving Boulders 2. Pizza Delivery 3. Highest Point in Morris County 4. David's Rock Collection 5. TRL Highlands Hike 6. Broken back in the Woods 7. TRL for the Love of the Highlands 8. Recycled Cache 9. Rooster's Potato Head Cache 10. Needful Things VI 11. Remembering Gerima 12. Autumn at Saffins Pond 13. Uncle Tom's Treerock Cache 14 Creative Cache II 15. TRL - did one of theirs that hasn't been approved yet
GeoKender Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 To all who have visited my newly approved/placed Pizza Delivery cache... Thank you! Hope it was as much fun for you finding it as it was for me planting it. Sorry for that bear scat. I saw it but avoided it. To briansnat for plugging it... Thanks!
Skully & Mulder et al. Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 Great job guys on grabbig 15 caches, in my neck of the woods, in spite of the head slave predicting it was not feasible . Wish I was there ... but I was in Harriman exercising the demon of JMB-69 (thanks David). Hope to see everyone soon.

Wish I was there ... but I was in Harriman exercising the demon of JMB-69 (thanks David). Hope to see everyone soon. And I was a few miles away finally getting Ay Carumba!!! off my to-do list after a few years on it. Great cache and a worthwhile one to hunt this (or any) time of the year. I'd certainly have to put it in my personal top 10 and I highly recommend it.
avroair Posted October 24, 2004 Author Posted October 24, 2004 We very narrowly missed a bear sighting! Met Team Ireland at a cache and they had just seen a bear in the area not 5 minutes before! Ay Carumba sounds like fun. Do you have a track log of the loop or at least a trail map?
Team Rampant Lion Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 We very narrowly missed a bear sighting! Met Team Ireland at a cache and they had just seen a bear in the area not 5 minutes before! Ay Carumba sounds like fun. Do you have a track log of the loop or at least a trail map? I think there are a couple epics up in that area. Sounds like a next group hike...
Skully & Mulder et al. Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 We very narrowly missed a bear sighting! Met Team Ireland at a cache and they had just seen a bear in the area not 5 minutes before! Ay Carumba sounds like fun. Do you have a track log of the loop or at least a trail map? There is a bear (or 2 or 3...) almost every night in the dumpster behind Sneaky Pete's ... there was probably one back there during Floopy's 3000th event cache! The black bears are pretty harmless ... There are always kids playing around in the neighborhood and there has never been an incident. BTW, Ay Carumba was one of my favorite caches - as was Splitrock Splendor & Cauldrons of Courage. I wish AD would hide some more caches.
avroair Posted October 25, 2004 Author Posted October 25, 2004 I really enjoyed AD's caches EXCEPT those darn ones in the swamps! Cauldrons of Courage was great although we choose poorly! Passaic Hideaway... cool Curse of the Suburban Monkey - Yep. I'm cursed.
briansnat Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 (edited) Ay Carumba sounds like fun. Do you have a track log of the loop or at least a trail map? I have my track log, but you wouldn't want it. We made a few mistakes that added to the walk. The NYNJTC map for the area would help and a park map would be even better. BTW, Ay Carumba was one of my favorite caches - as was Splitrock Splendor & Cauldrons of Courage. I wish AD would hide some more caches Don't forget the Giants Stairs. We very narrowly missed a bear sighting! Met Team Ireland at a cache and they had just seen a bear in the area not 5 minutes before! We had a bear sighting on our way to Ay Caraumba. But it was dead, on the side of the road . Edited October 25, 2004 by briansnat
