Laminated paper Token type coins with numbers....

I have been caching for only about two weeks now and have found several caches. There has been a common find through all of these -- besides the normal trinkets and log books, I have seen several of these laminated paper coins in the cache boxes. Some are labeled George token, Wheres George (I know that website), cache coin, etc. What are the purpose of these coins? Are they like Travel Bug type objects? If I take one do I log its tavels and then pass it on? Are they simply signature items? The questions keep on coming... Please fill me in on these things...

Not sure Ive ever heard of paper coins. I have seen business cards from different cacher teams, and even some left by the cache hider.

It looks like most of the caches you've found were placed by Flyfisherken and WildGeorge, have you tried email them and asking if they know who/what the 'coins' are?

I found a really nice one here in NJ left by "Team Jellybean". I don't have a pic of it handy, so I decided to see if I could find one posted in their finds. I didn't find one, but I did find out that the ones Team Jellybean uses were made by Spidertracks, who is a very active cacher in Utah, which is where the original poster is from. Here is a pic of Spidertracks, which looks alot like the one I found out here:

These are laminated and very nicely done.

Edit: Went back to another thread about Spider Tracks tokens, and Im not seeing where it says there paper... Not that says what they are made out... Guess I just wouldn't assume paper icon_redface.gif

Yes, but heavily laminated, much like many driver's licenses, or company/student ID cards. They do not easily bend, and should be waterproof. The one I found is slightly larger then most coins, maybe as tall as a standard business card.

I found a mini-Wheresgeorge dollar, laminated, with the name Wild George, and Token #490 (Salt Lake City Utah), written on it. I tried to log it at wheresgeorge.com, but it has been blocked from being logged. I can't seem to find a wya to log it.

Seems that the folks at wheresgeorge are a bit sensitive about our hobby. I got wind of it a bit ago and did a forum search over there. Made for some interesting reading. :P Seems that they feel that we are stacking the hit rates and have apparently implemented a seperate category for "our" bills. Sound like they require that a GC bill be identified as such even if the initial entry is at a cache and it is spent by the first finder rather than moving from cache to cache.

Perhaps they will reinstate your account now?

George
