Team Maddie UK Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 I noticed in the cito forums that people are starting to use film containers as CITO containers instead of micros. A shopping bag from most supermarkets can be folded to fit in them. Not having any film containers, I did the same thing with empty (labels removed) pill bottles and have started putting them in caches. I have written on the outside CITO and will make labels for future ones. The concept is that once you find the cache you take the bag out of the container and clean up some on your way back to your vehicle. Putting a clean bag in the container and dropping it off at your next cache unless of course you need it I personally think it is a good idea and look forward to finding similar containers in the future. +Firth of Forth Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 That's a really good idea. If every cacher made a contribution in this way, I expect it could make a huge difference to the environment. Quote
Team Ullium Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 (edited) I must be missing something Lynn Why is it necessary to squeeze the plastic bag in a small pill/film container??? Why not just an elastic band around it with a note wrapped around? That way it would take up far less room in the cache container than any pill or film box?? Especially as a good number of cache containers I have come across ... space is very much an issue!! I appreciate the thought though...and as FoF said if everyone was so environmentally aware it would be a better world I just carry an assortment of plastic bags at the bottom of my backpack which I use to carry away any rubbish I come across on the way in and out of a cache hunt. They don't take up a lot of room in my bag anyway and having them stuffed into a wee container like that seems a bit unnecessary....as I said I must be missing something?? Ullium. We definitely take your point but possibly the small container might attract more notice than the bag itself. Sort of, "what's this all about then?" Many of us, but possibly not all, do carry rubbish bags with a view to the CITO aspect of our activity. Also perhaps the note might get lost wheras with the container it acts as a reminder. That's not to say your bag with the rubber band isn't an equally good idea Orrabest, Martin and Lynn Quote
Team Ullium Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 Yes Lynn it has just occurred to me that your way would encourage cachers to drop off the container in another cache thus prolificating the concept Purely because just recently there seems to be a trend for smaller and smaller containers....thus it gets more difficult to make swaps or drop off TB's due to a lack of room in the container....I missed the the important point See... I told you I was missing something (I hate gettin old !?) Ullium. Quote
Team Maddie UK Posted October 3, 2004 Author Posted October 3, 2004 (I hate gettin old !?) ROFLMAO Welcome to the crowd lol. The three 'R's we grew up with which were Reading, 'riting' and 'rithmatic are now Reduce, Re-use and Recycle'. At least these rules do start with an 'R'! the original three challenged the very premise that they tried to impart. Martin & Lynn Quote
Brenin Tegeingl Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 (edited) I have a bonus cache on a multi, the contentsjust a log book and CITO containers. The idea being if each finder takes one container, uses the bag, refills the container and places it in another cache, thats a bag of rubbish that has been removed. On the outside of the container I tape a label on it with CITO bag please use, www.geocaching.com Refill container www.gagb.org.uk And place in the next cache. www.geocacheuk.com (there is a spacing between the mesage and web adressess, so that they line up on the canister, just not in this post ) that way it' obvius what it is straight away. My only complaint is , we shop at Farm Foods, their carrier bags are thich and strong, but wont fit into a film canister . Dave Edited October 3, 2004 by Mancunian Pyrocacher Quote
