Queeny Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 My TB Alice Cooper gave me sooo much fun when I started geocaching. I was hoping for great things when I set him free Now he's with someone who wont reply to emails so he's gone for good...Should I be feeling so miserable about it? I haven't had the heart to go caching for months. It feels like my cat is missing or something! I will not be sending out a personal TB again if I ever DO send one out that is...Has anyone else had these feelings? Is there hope??? Queeny :-( Quote
Bill D (wwh) Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 Well, I'm afraid it doesn't look too good. The person who took Alice only has five finds, and all those took place within the space of a week, four months ago. Nonetheless, travel bugs do go missing and reappear later. My only TB was taken from a cache by people who didn't log their finds online. It disappeared for three months, and I became sure it would never reappear. Then suddenly they signed up with gc.com and started logging online, and placed the TB. That one has now travelled more than half way round the world. In a recent thread you'll see mention of a TB that went missing for a year then resurfaced. So while it doesn't look good, don't give up hope. And don't give up caching either! Quote

Beds Clangers Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 (edited) Yes, know the feeling you send a liitle "part of yourself" into the great Geocaching world. It makes a few caches and then nothing...!! Sorry, to say but it is a fact of caching, it may "pop-up" again or just accept it and look for a TB graveyard cache. You will be surprised how common this is But, DON'T give up caching , the cachers who don't forward TBs are few and far between and the vast majority (99.99%) are a great bunch and will take care or TBs like they are "gold" Nick If you are the 0.01% just let the TBs go!! Just to celebrate, will open another bottle of Merlot, good, Chilean the best Edited October 1, 2004 by Beds Clangers Quote
markandlynn Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 Its happened to us or more precisely my daughter her TB got picked up and never dropped off so zero miles. We have the tracking number so we will release another under the same number. Another one of ours appeared to go missing and then turned up, the cacher had an accident and was in hospital. Its a fact of life with TB's. Quote

wildlifewriter Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 (edited) Its happened to us or more precisely my daughter her TB got picked up and never dropped off so zero miles. We have the tracking number so we will release another under the same number I have a question about that: Is it possible to order a duplicate TB tag, or do you just use the spare one? (Edited to remove all pirate vernacular - I can't stop doing it, now..) Edited October 1, 2004 by wildlifewriter Quote
klaus23 Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 (edited) You're on the right track - just "grab" the TB back into your possession, and then re-release an item with the duplicate/spare tag, then put it in a cache. Of course, the problem would be if the one presumed lost turned up somewhere... Edited October 1, 2004 by klaus23 Quote
Team Maddie UK Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 I recently grabbed a TB who had a printout with it. On this printout was a picture of a TB bug and the number had been written on it. I was able to log it successfully so I think that is one way of re-using the tag number without sending out the copy one. Lynn Quote
aRRKS Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 Sorry to hear about Alice, I sent quite a while sneaking around Sandbach Golf Club trying to take his picture. Quote

Greenmantle Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 I was wondering what had happened, you'd been so quiet for a long time. Don't give up just because one person acts in a disappointing manner, the vast majority of cachers are decent and considerate folk. As you say, there have been quite a lot of new caches in our area in the past few months, why not get out again and find some. Better still, why not put out some more, we've enjoyed all of those that you have already placed. Hope to hear that you are back in business again soon! P.S. If I come across any news of Alice, I'll let you know. Quote
Naefearjustbeer Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 The first TB I ever released made it to America before disapearing over a year ago. The finder stopped caching and stopped answering my emails. So I just re-used the tb number by printing it out a peice of paper and putting it in a bottle opener keyring 50 times!!!!! The bug is now appearing all over the place and I dont mind if people keep one or pass it on as there are so many on the go Quote
