Boxer Crew
Hi everyone. No newbie questions yet, I just wanted to say hello. I caught the end of a program on the TV about geocaching last weekend. I thought cool - gadgets and the great outdoors. Then I found this website. I have now ordered my Legend and am looking forward to a weekend of finding lots of stuff. Of course being a newbie I may struggle but who cares. Looking forward to a geocaching future Quote Link to comment
+tirediron
Welcome to the addiction! Have fun! Life as you know it is OVER!!!! (BTW, the FAQ pinned at the top has some great info if you haven't seen it yet!) Quote Link to comment
+rusty_tlc
Howdy and welcome. You picked a good unit to start out with. Be patient and try to enjoy. I would suggest starting out with a few caches rated as 1/1 or 2/2, just to get your feet wet. Going for difficult caches first thing out can be discouraging. Most of all have fun! +nfa
Hi, Welcome to geocaching...you'll have a great time! Make sure to allow plenty of time for your first couple of hunts...mine took me way longer than I planned on... nfa Quote Link to comment
+NoLemon
Welcome to the always fun and sometime frustrating world of geocaching. You'll notice a lot of people calling it an 'addiction.' If you don't watch out - it can be. It is for me, and I'm not complaining. As others have said, start out with some 1/1 - 2/2 caches. It does make a difference. Looking back at some of the caches that gave me difficulty when I was just starting out I think "How did I not find that right off?" The answer - experience. The more you do, the more you start thinking like a cacher (another sign of the addiction setting in). Like you, I have a Garmin eTrex Legend. I love it. It hasn't failed me yet. I cache in both Central IL and SW Ohio and have waypoints for about 700 caches in those areas loaded. It is already to go. Good luck and have fun. Edit: Spell chucker software failed again. +Anonymous'
Welcome to Geocaching. It's cool that the reports of the media are attracting new users. Quote Link to comment
Boxer Crew
Thanks for kind words and advice. One of the reasons I got so excited was the number of (supposedly) simple caches within 2 miles of home. Minimal chance of everything going completely pear shaped and getting massively lost. I'll let you know how I get on. Quote Link to comment

Boxer Crew
Found my first one. The legend got us in the right area and my wife spotted the cache. We had to go to a park for a doggy calender photo shoot, so I put the address in to find a nearby cache and got one within 200 meters. Cool. We didn't stay long because the ants were biting so we didn't take or leave anything. Just filled in the log. Lots of stuff in the cache (GCH0D1). Onto the next. Quote Link to comment
