the Geko 201 seems to be a better deal then the eTrex it has more features like WAAS, 10,000 track points, but does it work as well? thoughts anyone?

I kind of have mixed feelings about the Geko. I got one for my son (instead of the yellow eTrex). It does have some fun games on it (besides geocaching :( ), and yes it does support WAAS and a few more other things. I don't usually turn on WAAS on either unit since it is difficult to get a good signal around here. Those sats are pretty low on the horizon. But it does feel like a slimmed down/upgraded version of the eTrex. The screen is a little smaller, as is the whole unit. I have a Legend and prefer it to the Geko. I have heard that the Geko will acquire a lock faster and hold it through the trees better than the eTrex series, probably because of the upgrade aspect of it (they both have the same antenna). I can't really comment on that for sure. It is based on the eTrex line, which is quite obvious when you start using it. It does seem to be a good unit though. The buttons are a little small, especially the power button since it has a lip around it to keep it from accidentally being turned on. Given the choice between the yellow eTrex and the Geko 201, I would go with the Geko. But I don't say that with a huge amount of conviction.

I have a Gecko it works very well. I think its marginally better than the yellow eTrex, but for not a lot more you can get a Legend, which is head and shoulders above both of them.

I found my first two or three hundred caches with a 101 (which I traded away) and I now cache with a 301. The form factor is what's important to me - it is much smaller and less obtrusive than other GPSrs and fits easily in a pants pocket.

:o I agree. I love my Geko !!! It is so small and easy to use.

I started with a 101 when my husband first got me into geocaching. Then I had to upgrade to the 201 so I didn't have to manually enter waypoints. It is hard to watch the scenery and do that at the same time.

True story - when we were geocaching in London where there is a lot of cloud cover, my little Geko consistently held the satellites, whereas his big GPS 76 lost coverage constantly. It has happened many times here too when we are out in the woods.

Just call me the Geko Gal of the KaiserKlan. I plan to eventually upgrade to the 301.
