+Shoebox
We recently came across one of Moun10Bike geocoin here in Pittsburgh. It seems to be a fairly rare item here in our neighborhood and I'm now stuck with a hard choice. Its goal says it "yearns to roam" but also says, "if you prefer, you are also welcome to keep it and give it a new home". My daughter of coarse wants to keep it in the worst way. I feel a little guilty in keeping it as others in our area may want to see it and pass it along. But I want to keep my daughter interested in GeoCaching and to take it away may spoil her interest. So my question is to others that have come across these coins. Did you keep it or pass it along? I will probably also contact the owner and ask him as well but I'd like to hear from others. Thanks. +Lazyboy & Mitey Mite
I'd probably be selfish and hang onto it. I love signature items. It's not a travel bug and once a regular item gets put in a cache, it's up to the finder what happens to it. Never Squat With Yer Spurs On Quote Link to comment
+clatmandu
I was close to being in the same situation. One of his coins was 60 miles north of me. I considered going to pick it up. I would love to get ahold of one of them. Then I started thinking, "this thing has such a history with its travels (aprox 6000 mi) I would start to feel guilty not letting others see it. Never did get to it, but if I do, I'm going to make a good photocopy of it as my keepsake, then pass it on. Quote Link to comment
+Shoebox
It doesn't have a traditional travel bug tag but it has its own three digit numbering system and it was listed with a travel but symbol (which is why I noticed it}. And its travels are mapped like a travel bug so it is sort of a travel bug. But that "welcome to keep it" give me an out I guess. So, did anyone else keep it? Quote Link to comment
magellan315
I went to a cache in Orlando, FL and found that I had missed one his geocoins(#003) by a few days. Not sure if I would have kept it or passed along. Tough call to make when dealing with a really cool signature item like this. Quote Link to comment
+Wander Lost
We have one right now and had the same dilemma. We have come up with a best of both worlds solution. We are going to keep it for a while, but on our next long distance trip, we'll place it in a local cache. Bouncing it around from cache to cache around town wouldn't be much fun, and someone else might find it and keep it. This way it will move a good distance and fulfill the coin's deisre to travel. +mrcpu
I found a Canadian goin a while ago. I've been hanging on to it because it is really awsome looking AND I've enjoyed having it. Recently Servman showed me this traveler that he had and offered it to me if I wanted. I agreed, but since it would be unfair to just take it I decided to BUY it off him with my goin. So, next time you get a goin, you can use it go BUY a cache item or something similar from another cacher! Rob Mobile Cache Command Quote Link to comment
+BGunner01
I went to quite a bit of effort to retrieve one of Moun10Bike's great geocoins (#008) when it showed up in a cache here in the midwest. I quickly overcame the urge to keep it because I knew after the uniqueness wore off that it would probably just lay around collecting dust on a shelf or in a drawer - when it should be out there accumulating travel miles. I took some photos of it visiting the site of my new cache, properly logged it on the Travel Bug site, and actually placed it in my cache on April 1, 2002. It was retrieved 5 days later and the finder logged a note that it would be placed in another cache in a couple of weeks - but that was more than 2 months ago! I later e-mailed a polite inquiry to the finder to ask him if he ever moved it along. He did reply that it was his intent to keep it moving, but added some lackluster statement about deciding not to take the trip he’d originally planned and maybe he'd try to place it in some other local cache in another couple of weeks. Judging by his finds log, he hasn’t found another cache since finding mine on April 6. Of course, this is where I butt out because it’s not my Travel Bug and it’s not my business if the finder has dwindling interest in the sport / hobby - or even that maybe he decided to keep it as a souvenir. It does disappoint me, however, to see the coin stop its travels of more than 1500 miles if someone is just too lazy to get it back into circulation. Hopefully, maybe the finder will one day place it back into a cache and make me eat my words, eh? I hope so.... Quote Link to comment
+Mudfrog
OK, hows about some of ya'll bringing some of these cool "signature" items down this way! Would love to come across some of these, at least to take a gander at!!! I did miss picking up one of the wooden geonickels that float around the Houston area the other day. Would have sure liked to have seen and brought one over to stash in one of the local caches here. Quote Link to comment
mtncycler
I would say Keep it, temporarily! This way your daughter stays interested in Geocaching, and gets to enjoy the Geocoin. Maybe decide to keep it for a few months, then send it on its way (after taking pics of course) that way allot of other kids(at heart) can enjoy it......I would love to find on here in Canada.......just my opinion, Quote Link to comment

+Dakota Ladybug
Go ahead a keep it if you want. I purchased some of the Canadian Geocoins and placed some in a cache for family members to find at a reunion. If they choose to keep it as a momento that's fine, if they can bear to let it go that's okay too. I'm keeping one for myself of course! Quote Link to comment

+Crusso
On a similar note I just had these laid out by a company that makes chips for all the big casinos: www.pokerchips.com/proof/7729.jpg These are printed double sided. Geocache logo on one side & either globe logo on the back w/the dot com address. Overall size is 1 5/8". These are a heavy chips, not cheap plastic material. Same as used in casinos. I can get them for about $1-$1.10 each, less in larger quantities. Problem is they need a several hundred piece initial order plus art charges. They really are gorgeous & I wondered if anyone wants to go in on the order with me. I'll order them & ship them to anyone who wants some. I am not charging anything extra for them as I am using the logo & I know it's only for private non-profit use per Jeremy. I'll provide a copy of the invoice to anyone that wants proof. I can order them in any one specific color as shown or in mixed batches. Please email me as I'd like to put an order in. I'll accept orders for any quantity wanted then see what I get as a total. This graphic is the proof graphic. Email me at IMF16@aol.com Chris Quote Link to comment
