+Geofellas
Hopefully this is a new suggestion - I did run a search first and couldn't find it having been suggested before. As someone who travels a fair bit I like to try and find caches near airports that I am passing through (for TB swops, filling in time before flights, caching somewehere new, etc. etc.). Currently I have to go and look up the airport's lat and long at a site like World Airport Codes and then enter it in the search fields on gc.com. Would it be reasonable to ask for a field for entering the airport code as the centre point of a search (à la Postal/Zip Code)? Then I could just enter YYZ (or the full ICAO 4 character code CYYZ - probably should allow both formats - but at least the 3 char one anyway) and find all the caches close to Pearson Airport, Toronto, Canada for example. There are various databases available to do the lookup which I'm sure TPTB could buy for a very reasonable price to supply this feature - I might even offer a donation if that would help to get this feature implemented. +rusty_tlc
While you wait here is a free data base you can download. If you (or a friend) have any Database skills you can make a simple search function to return the Lat and Lon for a given airport and use that to do your search. Link to comment
Jeremy
great idea. I'll see about implementing this. Link to comment

The highest airport in North America is KXLV - Lake County Airport in Leadville, CO at 9927 feet. The lowest is L06 - Furnace Creek Airport in Death Valley National Park at -210 feet. Close behind that is KCLR - Cliff Hatfield Memorial Airport in Calipatria, CA at -180 feet. Edited September 16, 2004 by Moun10Bike Link to comment
arash
Hello all, I'm Arash, I made the database, If you guyz have details about new airports not on the list or information about the airports on the list which you might think maybe more correct than what is available please feel free to e-mail them to me I'll verify and update the database. Also I've written some software both in object pascal and c++ for querying the database etc... If anyone is interested feel free to contact me: http://www.partow.net/contact.html The more help and information I get the more accurate and better the database will become Regards Arash __________________________________________________ Be one who knows what they don't know, Instead of being one who knows not what they don't know, Thinking they know everything about all things. http://www.partow.net Link to comment

arash
Hi KG7JE, I went to the DAFIF site, and to be honest I seem a bit confused, could you please tell me which file(s) would contain the data relevtant to the database in question? +Prime Suspect
I went to the DAFIF site, and to be honest I seem a bit confused, Not to mention all the security warnings that it triggered. Link to comment
+KG7JE
I don't use those files but I do know that a lot of the Flying navigation software picks up their airport and air routing information from those files. There are other sites such as Cirrus for DUATS. From that page you can download the Airport file. Then AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) has a site for Airport information. You need to be a member to access it's data file. Finally, the RMS folks on this page note that they use the DAFIF data for their software. They might be willing to share some tidbits of the specific files they use. Good Luck. I promise, another 25 pounds off and I'll go back to see the flight surgeon about getting my medical back! +SeeAndAvoid
I'm glad to see someone else wants Airport ID as a search option. I've started a website based on this at www.airportgeocaches.com I'd like to have some kind of searchable database and saw the site mentioned before, I'm just not sure how to implement the file into a searchable option on a website. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Chris Link to comment
