Challenge

I have placed 6 caches in one area of a very large park. What I have in mind is to create a "XXXXX Challenge" whereby the seeker must log all 6 caches, then e-mail me that they have logged all six - then I will send them the waypoints for the 7th cache (the Challenge) cache.

Has this been done? What do you people think of this type of idea?

Comments? Suggestions? All welcome -

:anibad: You didn't ask for questions, but I will throw this out anyway: Short of going out and verifying the physical logs for 6 caches, how are you going to ensure that people don't just log them on-line and get the co-ords for the last one, or do you care?

Good point. Better put some code in each one of the six caches for finders to write down, which - when decrypted - reveal the coordinates of the seventh cache.

well I did think of that. It is possible, but it means they have to fudge and lie about 6 caches. OH! I just thought of something - every one of my caches have a number on them inside and on the cache log. I could make them put that in the log or in the e-mail.

One thing I did consider on that theme was putting parts of the new waypoints in the old caches -but that means I have to go to each cache and do it - and worse, it means that everyone that has already logged them has to go back and find tha cache again.

So there are two sides to that - that I did consider. I guess I just have to trust and go with it.

It has been done in my area.

The cache placer is known locally for continually coming up with creative, new ideas for caches. In this case, the six caches that must be found first had already been in existence for some time when "Southern Six Pack" was placed. Theoretically, many cachers may have already met the requirements for logging the final before it was even placed. Additionally, other cachers own five of the prerequisite caches... so it differs slightly from your idea. The idea behind "Southern Six Pack" is to get other cachers to go out and find some of the best (in the opinion of the placer) or most difficult caches around our area.

Obviously, if you place something like this, expect fewer people to log finds on it. I think it's a great idea, though. Good luck with it. :anibad:

So how did he arrange the veification for Southern Six Pack?

This is similar to mine - 2 of the 6 have been in existance for a month or so, 3 are new - and I expect the last to be ok'd in the next couple of days.

So I am interested in how he did it for those who had already qaualified.

I think it's best to put pieces in each of the steps to find the final.

What if you went away from your computer on vacation or even the bathroom for a couple minutes? Many people won't like having to wait for a cache owner to answer an email and they probably won't like interrupting their hunt to have to do this.

I've seen exceptions pulled off by more famous cachers with more difficult puzzles and well advertised caches. None, however, with all the wpts in a single park.

Here's one we did last week that was very enjoyable:

ya - I had thought of that too - not being able to continue the hunt while there - having to go back home (unless they have Blackberries) for the e-mail cycle. I'd be able to get back to them within a day -

vacation? don't get to take many of those - usually day at a time - but good thought-

but to go back to one of my previous thoughts - all those who have logged them have to go back and get the puzzle pieces -

-------------------

I did try to cover all the bases - thought I had thought of everything - can't alway so thought I'd put it up here and see what I got - all good ideas so far - don't stop now - :anibad:
