avroair Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 (edited) Hey guys, I am looking for a park to host an event that has a pavillion area in case of inclement weather. Know any? Edited September 11, 2004 by avroair Quote
Team DEMP Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 Many of the Bergen County parks have pavillians. I know the one Dunkerhook and Van Saun parks do. Also there was a pavillion at Tourne park has one as one of the clues in a puzzle cache is dependant on it. Quote
briansnat Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 (edited) Silas Condict Park, the site of northern NJ's second geocaching event ever, has a very nice pavillion. It 's quite large and can accomodate quite a few people. They also allow beer there if you're willing to spend $100 for a permit. There are also a lot of goodcaches in the immediate area. +Straatmaker 5 Posted September 12, 2004 Posted September 12, 2004 Several other Morris County Parks have pavillions, Lewis Morris and the Tourne to name two. Here's a link to the parks list: http://www.morrisparks.net/parkslist.html Quote
Straatmaker 5 Posted September 12, 2004 Posted September 12, 2004 Is this for the Murder Mystery Event? Quote
HartClimbs Posted September 12, 2004 Posted September 12, 2004 (edited) Many of the Morris County parks have 'em - right near me, Lewis Morris and Loantaka park all have group picnic areas with covered areas (Loantaka even has a group picnic area with a pavilion that includes two grill areas INSIDE the pavilion). Many of the town parks have covered group areas as well. Only downside is that the parks close at sunset promptly (so they're not suitable for any night/evening events). Might be easier if you have a general area in mind (hint hint - Morristown area is pretty centrally located!). Edited September 12, 2004 by HartClimbs Quote
avroair Posted September 12, 2004 Author Posted September 12, 2004 Hey Hart, sorry I can't reach Morristown from my computer. J/K - My wife works there so I am over there quite often. Yes, this would be for the murder mystery. I love Tourne park, however, don't remember seeing a pavillion. Now that I have received a whole bunch of answers (thanks!) can people name a favorite? I am looking for something that can house 40-50 with food and people can then mingle. Quote
Team DEMP Posted September 12, 2004 Posted September 12, 2004 The Tourne one (see the link) and the one Brian referenced in SIlas Condict were large. I really thing all the parks have pretty large pavillions. I know Dunkerhook's in Paramus is large too. Quote
briansnat Posted September 12, 2004 Posted September 12, 2004 The one in Silas Condict can easily house 50 people with room to spare. Its quite big. Quote
avroair Posted September 12, 2004 Author Posted September 12, 2004 (edited) Best of friends, but where is the Pavillion?!? Edited September 12, 2004 by avroair Quote
Team DEMP Posted September 12, 2004 Posted September 12, 2004 Best of friends, but where is the Pavillion?!? Eh? Quote
avroair Posted September 13, 2004 Author Posted September 13, 2004 Look over at the Floopy event photo. Quote
Mxyzptlk Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 (edited) If you are looking for the Pavillion in the Tourne you have to enter the park from the Boonton side (McCaffrey Lane) in order to drive to it. The Denville entrance has a gate which they have been keeping closed which does not allow you to drive up to the Pavillion (you can park and walk the 1/4 to 1/2 mile to it though). I'm assuming they keep the gates closed to prevent cut-through traffic. On the map the Pavillion is near the softball field. If you need someone to scope it out for a capacity estimate let me know - I live near that park. Edited September 13, 2004 by Mxyzptlk Quote
EMTJeepers Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 (edited) There is also the Knoll Country Club.. We have family reunions there.... And no, we are not members.... Edited September 13, 2004 by EMTJeepers Quote
Straatmaker 5 Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 The largest pavillion at the Tourne has the capacity for 75 people (I asked someone who works with the parks department). Quote
avroair Posted September 13, 2004 Author Posted September 13, 2004 The largest pavillion at the Tourne has the capacity for 75 people (I asked someone who works with the parks department). What time does the park close? (is it open during the winter?) and is the pavillion available during the fall and winter? Do we need a permit or to reserve it? This one looks the most promising. Quote
HartClimbs Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 Morris County parks close at sunset (see previous thread on "tickets"). They are open daily year round (although one section of road in the Tourne is closed for driving when it gets very icy). I'm already looking forward to the event! Here's the specifics on reserving the pavilion: http://www.parks.morris.nj.us/reservation.html Quote
avroair Posted September 14, 2004 Author Posted September 14, 2004 I shall call the reservations again tomorrow. I called at 4:20 today and they were already done for the day! Tough life!!! What about the weather in November (13th or 14ht)? It should hold right? Quote
Team DEMP Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 What about the weather in November (13th or 14ht)? It should hold right? I think the weather will be better on the 14th Quote
avroair Posted September 14, 2004 Author Posted September 14, 2004 Yeah cause you're gonna be at Disneyland on the 13th! Quote
avroair Posted September 14, 2004 Author Posted September 14, 2004 Okay, the Tourne park pavillion is looking good. i need help with someone from Morris County booking the reservation. In Morris county $75 + $25 (beer and wine fee) Out of Morris county $150 + $25 (beer and wine fee) I will pay, just need a reservation from someone in this county. Also, need coordinates for the pavillion. Got any?!? Quote
Team DEMP Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 (edited) Also, need coordinates for the pavillion. Got any?!? Ok - one more time... The coordinates for the Pavillion are those of the cache Boiling Springs Bypass. Everything you need for the final coords of the puzzle cache are found at/around/part of the Pavillion. Also, pay attention to the post above at http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...dpost&p=1067815 since there's at least 2 entrances to the park, but one has a gate by it's parking area that doesn't allow you to park right next to the Pavillion. It's not far away, but it's not the Pavillion parking lot. Edited September 14, 2004 by Team DEMP Quote
avroair Posted September 14, 2004 Author Posted September 14, 2004 Do event caches apply to the 528 foot rule? Cause the cache is right there!!! Quote
Team DEMP Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Do event caches apply to the 528 foot rule? Cause the cache is right there!!! I would think not. Plus it's just the location where you get the info to the cache where the final coords are. The cache itself isn't at the pavilion. Quote
