davester
I'm currently writing a walking and geocaching website and as well as detailed walk descriptions I would like to be able to create basic maps to go along with them. I guess most of the editing will have to be carried out in Photoshop or the like, but does anyone know of any other way of doing this? Getting a graphical plot of the GPS track off the GPS and being able to save in a decnt format would be the least I need. Thanks in advance. Quote Link to comment
+raouljan
Try OziExplorer... http://www.oziexplorer.com/ You can scan in maps, plot your tracks on top of them ... lots of cool stuff Quote Link to comment
topografix
I'd use a program like Wissenbach Map to turn your GPX tracklogs into SVG, which you can then edit with Adobe Illustrator. Quote Link to comment
+Alan2
Have you looked into using the topo map programs from the manufacturer of your GPS? Anoither optoion if you're only doing this in one state (due to the program cost) is National Geographic Topo. Edited September 4, 2004 by Alan2 Quote Link to comment
+larsl
You can use QGIS to plot your track on the screen and save it as a pixmap (but not SVG (yet)), on its own or with background maps, if you have any. It's free software. Quote Link to comment
coureur des bois
If you live in Canada, you could use SoftMap Plur or SoftMap Pro. This sotfware comes with topographic maps of Quebec or Canada. Jacques Quote Link to comment
Phoenix2001
Currently there's no software that does everything I would like it to in terms of handling a GPS receiver and annotating maps. If you are interested in marking trails with dotted or dashed lines there is a version of GPSUtility that will do that and save as a BMP image (tracks merged with background map). It hasn't been released to the public so you would need to contact the author. Some other programs might do what you need such as GPS Trackmaker and are free. See software list at: www.gpsmap.net/links.html Edited September 24, 2004 by Phoenix2001 Quote Link to comment
clarQue
Check out MotionBased -- www.motionbased.com. I've been using them to track my runs and bike rides, but this is a great tool to create a history of your caches. The interactive maps are very cool. Quote Link to comment
