Geoman007
Do ammo can's leak? I have some prizes that I recieved from garmin including shirts and hats for my 2004 NJ Cache race this weekend and was wondering if it is safe to put them in an ammo can and not get wet and ruined. +briansnat
Usually no, but they can. If the gasket is rotted, or otherwise defective, or the rim is bent it can leak. Also, if someone leaves a plastic bag, or similar thing sticking out of the box it can break the seal and leak. That being said, I think I've seen maybe two ammo boxes that leaked out of all my finds and hides. Quote Link to comment
avroair
I have only ever found to ammo cans with leaks. One had a hole punctured in the side and in the other cache the sides of the ammo can were knocked out of whack and the top didn't shut properly. You could put the prizes in plastic ziplocs? +ski
I have seen some ammo cans where the lid can shift a little to one side while it's open. When this happens the lid can still be closed, locked, and look ok, but there will be a gap on one side that will let water in. Quote Link to comment
+The_Z_Man
I found an ammo can cache that was "placed" under water at a dam... for weeks. And the contents were dry. So I would say that if they are in good condition... they are waterproof. Quote Link to comment
