Smooze
I've noticed that there are several different types of caches. I know what a traditional and micro cache are. But what are the others? I've seen Virtual and Letterbox listed but what are they? Thanks! Quote Link to comment
+gallahad
Take a look at this page and I think you'll find most of the answers to your question(s). Edited August 25, 2004 by gallahad Quote Link to comment
+New England n00b
A virtual is a place where a cache cannot be hidden due to environment or regulation, but is still a fascinating place to see. These are very hard to get approved anymore due to the need to be spectacular. A Letterbox predates geocaching. It uses orienteering skills (Map & compass) to find a box. In it is a stamp and a log. You use your stamp on the log, and their stamp on your log. DON'T TAKE THEIR STAMP! It is not a geocache in the traditional sense. There are hybrids, which geocaching.com lists. I do not believe you will find pure letterboxes here. If you go through the website, there are some excellent help files that can explain much of this for you. Alternatively, geocaching-u.com has good data as well. Welcome to caching, and enjoy! Quote Link to comment

+writer
You can also combine cache types; for example, why not have a puzzle that ends in a micro that also requires information from a virtual to claim the log? Quote Link to comment
