+drag-racer
This is fairly off topic so mods please delete if it's too far off base. Just curious and didn't know who else to ask other than you all. My new cell phone(LG 4400) is alledgedly GPS enabled. I've heard that these phones can possibly tell a 911 operator your location thru this feature. I just don't see how this could work. I'm neither a GPSr or a cell phone expert so does anyone know anything about this?? [edit]....ok well I just did a search and found THIS THREAD that explains a lot. +Alan2
My Nexteldoes the same thing but the function has to be enabled for me to be tracked. In addition, the GPS has to lock on the satellites which is not so easy. Actually, the theory is also that in an emergency, the authorities will be able to find you if you need assistance. I believe that's for the future as most authorities are not yet set up for this. It will work like this: you call 911 and report: "I've fallen and can't get up" The 9111 operators can tell your position and send the EMS. Of course if you fell in your bathtub, it better be an outdoor Jacuzzi. Quote Link to comment
