+Team Golden Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Hi - Bad news in my camp. UPS has lost my 5 coins. The package was last received in IL and then poof it disappeared. I have an e-mail into Jerry and Michele. I don't have a lot of hope that the package will be found. Can anyone help out a fellow cacher. I really only need 4 coins. One for me and 3 that I traded and feel bad since I let other cachers down that were counting on the coins. If you can help me out let me know. Thanks, Brian Quote
lucyandrickie Posted November 24, 2004 Author Posted November 24, 2004 Team Golden, do not fear we will take care of you. We have kept a few coins just for this situation. Give me a day or two to get your replacement coins out to you. Quote

+Bull Moose Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Uh.... my coins were lost, too. That's some great forward thinking, L&R. Again, very impressed. Quote
+Allanon Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Darn...there goes the pool I was hoping to get some from... Guess I'll just have to find more caches... Quote
+Square Bear Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 Just saw this on Ebay, knew it was just a mater of time. Washington Coin on Ebay Quote

Now I know that everybody plays the game differently (and thank goodness for that!) but... one does have to wonder, why somebody... in OR no less, would buy up a stash of errrr... "our" coins - only to resell them on Ebay. Oh yeah, I know why - $$$ Ah well, guess it takes all kinds... Quote

+pdxmarathonman Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Just saw this on Ebay, knew it was just a mater of time.Washington Coin on Ebay Amazing...minimum $8 with shipping...shakes my head It isn't up for auction. Just for sale for $6 + $2 S/H. It'll be interesting to see if for sale becomes sold. Quote
+Right Wing Wacko Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Since the auction is for an unactivated coin, I would assume that the person holding the auction actually purchased the coins. In that case, I don't see why anyone should have a problem with it. If someone were selling coins that they found in caches, that would be another matter. Quote
+Square Bear Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 It is a great opportunity for some one that missed out on getting one. I’ve sold a couple myself to some of the people I know at work that missed out on getting one. They won’t get rich selling it for that price that’s for sure. Quote
lucyandrickie Posted November 29, 2004 Author Posted November 29, 2004 The only thing that would upset me about this is if one of the coins was # 50, pdxmarathonman's low # that we lost or shipped to someone else. And then I'd just have to get mad at us for making the mistake in the first place. Quote
MarcusArelius Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Yes, quite the coincidence the seller was in Portland. If the package ended up on someone else's doorstep.... Maybe the buyer could check the numbers with L&R. Quote
+KC0GRN Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Okay okay, I gave in and bought it (Please don't flame me, my intentions are only good). If it's not one of the missing ones, or #50, I'll use it as a FTF prize in my next cache. Forgive me if you think I'm supporting the bad people of the world, honestly I'd rather make a bad situation better. I'll get in touch with L&R to make sure that the coin isn't one of the missing ones when I receive it. Quote
lucyandrickie Posted November 29, 2004 Author Posted November 29, 2004 The only missing one is #0050. If any one has received this coin in error, it would be GREAT to step up. Contact us or pdxmarathonman personally. We have no intention of flaming anyone for selling Wa. coins. We are just glad to give back to a community that we are proud to be a part of. Quote
Team Levy Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 Hi all... kind of a silly question. I just released my first WA Geocoin out into the wild (a most worthy puzzle cache if I must say so... I might add the actual cache to this post later) but I was wondering how anyone would know it's in there. Since the coins are not tracked via GC.com... there's no way to make a note that the coin has been moved into a cache... other than an actual post/note, etc. Did I miss something here? I've activated the coin and it's resting peacefully in the cache... but how will anyone know it's there (in case they wanted to move it on) except for the happenstance encounter (Geocacher finds cache... opens canister... exclaims "WOW... a WA Geocoin!!!") Thanks again! Team Levy Quote
MarcusArelius Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 (edited) A log note is the best way to show it's there. I plan to include a link to the WSGA site in my logs where I leave a coin. I may post a picture of it also. PS You left it in Kirkland eh...? Edited November 30, 2004 by MarcusArelius Quote

MarcusArelius Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 Yes you just paste a complete URL into the log and submitt the entry. The web site will automatically convert it to a link for you. See this cache log. I could not get the link title to change though. If anyone knows how let me know. I'd also like to know if there is a way to embed a small graphic directly into the log message. +Square Bear Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 I've seen some one use a USA geocoin tracking # to show that it is in the cache. I think I might use that idea. Log the coin in and then when someone gets it grab it back out again. Quote
+tolmaus Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 (edited) Is there a "guided tour" to show how to activate coins? Edited November 30, 2004 by tolmaus Quote

Yes that works and if you look at the source for your cache page note, it's just a regular "a href" link. But as I recall, I had fits getting such to work when I added it to a log, and finally figured out that I had to use gc.com priority "url" tags instead - like this (note that I have to spell out the first opening brackets to deactive the link - apparently quotes or somesuch won't work): straight bracketURL=http://www.somesite.com/]This way you can peck whatever link verbiage you like[/url] and here 'tis again, activated ...hmmm2, looking now at your raw quote as I get set to send this - here in the forums your link uses the "" etc. as well. And no, sorry I've not (yet) tried embedding a graphic in a log (though I'm sure that you'd first have to upload to your profile as always.) Quote
Team Levy Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 PS You left it in Kirkland eh...? Hehe... yeppers... and that's probably enough of a clue to get people out there scouring the Kirkland caches for it... Quote
