+Bilder 0 Posted August 18, 2004 NBC news as well as CBS did stories on the cleanup of hurricane Charlie. Both stories gave kudos to hams who are stepping up and providing commuications in the affected areas. Was kind of funny to watch the NBC boradcast. One shot was of an old timer sitting on his porch talking away on his ham rig, and the next shot was of a young gal holding a usless cell phone trying to get a connection. Anyone else see it? +EScout 0 Posted August 19, 2004 I did not see this but I believe it. Several members of the Ham club to which I belong U.R.A.C. are members of the Sheriff and Fire Dept disaster communication volunteer teams. During the wild fires last year I listened to the action on some local repeaters (So. Calif area.) Several years ago during a camporee campout, there was a earthquake late at night. I knew the fellow Scout leader in the next campout who was a ham...I could here him on the air as his disaster team activated a net.....about 2AM, using the radio in his car.
