Colquhoun
I just got a Garmin 60C I want to connect it to my iMac and need a USB to serial connector, according to the software help at MacSimple. (which was prompt and very helpful. the waypoints uploaded smoothly from geocache page to mac. so far so good) I looked at a bunch of web sites, but I can't figure out what to buy. Nothing looks like it will plug into the back of the Garmin. Any other Mac users direct me to the proper cable(s)? A cable did come with the Gramin, which fits nicely with my USB, but the computer doesn't recognize the connection. So, what cable do I get and what do I plug it into on my garmin and my iMac?? Thanks, Colquhoun Quote Link to comment
+jollybgood
As far as I know Macs/OSx won't recognize the GPS60/60Cs through the USB port. Not with Virutal PC installed. You need to buy the serial cable for your GPS60 and THEN buy a Serial to USB adapter (I recommend the Iogear but there are several different brands that will work equally as well). Unless of course your Mac has a serial port then simply connect the serial cable directly. I know it sounds whacky. But that's the solution I've been using. If someone else has a better way I'm sure they'll post. Quote Link to comment
Colquhoun
Thanks. I just placed the orders. EXPENSIVE proposition. Hope they all fit together when they arrive! Quote Link to comment
robertlipe
It's my intent to support OS/X (via libusb) USB transfers to the 60's with GPSBabel as that work progresses. It's really only just started. See http://gpsbabel.sf.net . Quote Link to comment
Colquhoun
So, I can use this software with the USB cable rather than the serial port cables? Does the software determine which kind of cable is necessary? Thanks, Quote Link to comment
