Usb To Serial Cable

Recommended Posts

I just got a Garmin 60C

I want to connect it to my iMac and need a USB to serial connector, according to the software help at MacSimple. (which was prompt and very helpful. the waypoints uploaded smoothly from geocache page to mac. so far so good)

I looked at a bunch of web sites, but I can't figure out what to buy. Nothing looks like it will plug into the back of the Garmin.

Any other Mac users direct me to the proper cable(s)?

A cable did come with the Gramin, which fits nicely with my USB, but the computer doesn't recognize the connection.

So, what cable do I get and what do I plug it into on my garmin and my iMac??

Thanks, Colquhoun

As far as I know Macs/OSx won't recognize the GPS60/60Cs through the USB port. Not with Virutal PC installed.

You need to buy the serial cable for your GPS60 and THEN buy a Serial to USB adapter (I recommend the Iogear but there are several different brands that will work equally as well).

Unless of course your Mac has a serial port then simply connect the serial cable directly.

I know it sounds whacky. But that's the solution I've been using.

If someone else has a better way I'm sure they'll post.
