Meridian Gold Or Sportrak Pro Color

New to this (as you can see by my posts) and am not sure I made the right choice as far as GPS units go. So many choices out there and not already owning one makes it hard to make an informed decision. I already purchased a Meridian Gold from Walmart for $199 a few days ago. Have (8) Geocache finds under our belts and it seems like a good unit for the most part. Reading and watching posts on the Yahoo group kind of makes it sound problem prone but also very expandable and extremely accurate. I started leaning towards a G60C but it seems they have some trouble too.

A good compromise (to me) at least seems to be the Sportrak Pro Color. For only about $50 or so more than what I paid for my Meridian I can have color with out the hassle of additional memory cards. I rarely leave the state and primary use for this will just be geocaching and a little hunting fishing.

Opinions??

I don't think you'd be happy with the screen on the SporTrak. It really fades out in bright sunlight which makes it difficult to see.

If you only need a state's worth of maps at one time, the ST Color will work fine. I have the majority of both NY and NJ on mine. Haven't had any unusual problems with the screen, just tilt a bit if in direct sunlight, like just about every other electronic display. If you're shooting for more compact, its also the way to go. Personally, the Meridian is way too bulky for me, the ST fits nicely in a pocket. I have no problems with the unit, the functions are all there and they work well.

The one thing about the ST Color, the buttons are a bit too flat to the unit, so they require more precise pressing. Its fine for me, but someone with very large fingers might not appreciate it. The ST Pro had the rubber buttons which sat up off the unit nicely, for easy pressing. The ST Color one's may look prettier, but are less easy to use. Good luck with whatever you choose.
