Software For Parsing Datasheets

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I know that in the past I have read detailed messages on how some of us are downloading datasheets and parsing them into machine readable format. How are you doing it. I am leaving on vacation at the end of the week and would liek to get the most recent data sheets into my palm. If I can get them into word or excel then I can export them into my palm. Regards. Mike

Get an archived set of datasheets for your county of interest from the NGS site. This is a text file that you can open in Word, which may be all you want to do. (If you want just a few individual data sheets, you can get them there, too).

It's not a whole lot more work to get hot-linked html files, though:

1. Transform the NGS dat file togpx format with bmgpx.

2. Open that file into GSAK.

3. Export the file within GSAK to HTML format.

4. Use Plucker to generate a file that you can load and view on your Palm OS PDA.

Everything is a pretty straight-forward operation except getting Plucker tweaked just right the first time. If you're just wanting to try paperless BM hunting, Word is not a bad way to try things out.
