Jeremy Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 We're preparing a separate sandbox server which will be the place for announcing general development changes on Geocaching.com. Even before the site is up, however, application developers will have the opportunity to get on a mailing list where we will announce changes and additions to the Groundspeak namespace so you aren't caught off guard and can anticipate it in your code. Track this topic. When we have the new mailing list available we will post to this topic so you are notified. Also, this will be an initial placeholder for announcing additions to the cache types and log types on geocaching.com. For example, we will be adding an additional cache type: Earthcache (I'll describe this in another post) And we're adding two new log types for cache listings: Temporarily Disable Listing Enable Listing Quote
Jeremy Posted August 9, 2004 Author Posted August 9, 2004 In the next week or so, we will be adding the new cache type and two log types. If you are writing an application please shout out so I know you're here. Quote
Allen_L Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 I AM HERE. Sorry about the all caps but you said shout. Quote
robertlipe Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Can you please provide samples to improve the odds of the apps having their stuff ready when/before you flip the switch? Quote
Yamar Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Excellent! Thanks for documenting changes early! I have many scripts I use to process stuff and web pages devoted to processing GPX files, so thanks. Quote
ClayJar Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Guess it's time for me to get back to work (and catch up on my own extreme backlog). Quote
ClydeE Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 I am waiting with a worm on my tongue (baited breath) Quote
jeff35080 Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 As the webmaster of the Alabama Geocachers Association, I would like to be put on the mailing list as I am attempting to write some apps for our association which, if they work, will be provided back to the community at large. Quote
planetrobert Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 I admittidly have yet to release anything BUT I have tinkered with a few projects that could possibly become a real piece of software for this game so count me in too. Quote
ZackJones Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 Not writing (yet) but here. Will offer services to help test anything you other guys write. Can test with GPSMap 60C, Palm M130 and IPaq. Zack Quote
Marky Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 I'm definitely interested in incorporating this kind of technology into some of the projects I am working on. --Marky Quote
MileHighAko Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 Yo! I'm here. I've currently implemented GPX schema 1.1 and Groundspeak:cache 1.1. Wish I could get that data out of Groundspeak. Quote
Maeglin Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 Thanks for the heads-up! Chiming in with the rest of em Quote
Hynr Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 Have written some gpx software for my own use; will do it again if needed and if my day job ever slows down a bit. Please count me in. Quote
astrandb Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 I´m awake again - waiting for the latest news... /Åke S Quote
GeoBlank Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 count me in for notifications like this. A distribution list for goedevs would be nice to have. Know what is coming as well as what may break our code. Good community to have as well so we can discuss amongst ourselves... Quote
TFTC Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 I'm not actively writing an application but I might want to once there is a sandbox to play in! Quote
Bo & Elisabeth Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 Please put me on the mailing list too. Thanks ! Quote
BuckToothMoose Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 Count me in too Jeremy, and thanks for the heads-up!!!! Quote
ZackJones Posted August 14, 2004 Posted August 14, 2004 Is this an acceptable place to discuss features we'd like to see programs support or would those be better off put into a separate area? Also, is there anything planned like GPX files for TB's? That would be GREAT! Zack Quote
jslagle Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 If you create a list, please count me in. Quote
FarSideX Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 Sign me up! If I ever get these apps done it would be to have them current. Quote
aerospacecase Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 Add me to the list. Does this mean developers will get access to the SQL Server database for querying? Quote
Jeremy Posted September 9, 2004 Author Posted September 9, 2004 Does this mean developers will get access to the SQL Server database for querying? Perhaps you may think so in an opium induced haze. But no. Quote
Jeremy Posted September 9, 2004 Author Posted September 9, 2004 Since the sandbox is not yet up, we will be adding a new size "mini" to the list of supported sizes for caches. This is based on the continuing request to have a size between Micro and Regular. Quote
Jeremy Posted September 9, 2004 Author Posted September 9, 2004 One question. How soon should I wait before implementing changes (additions mostly) to the GPX data? We're not talking schema changes. Quote
robertlipe Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 How long should you wait between the proposal and the prototype implementation or how long should you wait between the time you've made samples available to developers and they've checked out their programs to be sure they've had a chance to get updated versions into the hands of the users?
