I posted this in the Northeast Forums and got some great responses so I am reposting here.

 

The Washington Post holds a contest to find alternate meanings for various words.

 

The following were a couple of the winning entries:

* Coffee (n.), a person who is coughed upon.

* Abdicate (v.), to give up all hope of ever having a flat stomach.

* Esplanade (v.), to attempt an explanation while drunk.

* Willy-nilly (adj.), impotent

* Negligent (adj.), a condition in which you absentmindedly answer the door in your nightie.

* Gargoyle (n.), an olive-flavored mouthwash.

* Flatulence (n.) emergency vehicle that picks you up after you are run over by a steamroller.

* Pokemon (n), A Jamaican proctologist.

 

Can you come up with any geocaching related alternative meanings, here's a couple:

* Cache Swag (n.), the strut ones does after they find a WG$

* GZ (n), what long islanders call the state on the other side of the Hudson

* Multi (n) - a type of grog

* Mystery cache (v) - ducking at the last second to evade a tree hidden by the landscape (miss-tree kak-he)

Alternate: Decon Box (n.) - a brown paper bag lunch they give ex-convicts after they leave jail

* Waypoint (v.) - to give directions

* URP (n.) - What you do after drinking warm soda

* Markwell (n.) - To build a good hiking trail

* YAPIDAKA (n.) - Part of Fred Flintstone signature call "yapidaka doo"

2003 Winner's from the Washington Post Style Invitational

 

The Washington Post's Style Invitational once again asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition.

Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with.
Reintarnation: Coming back to life as a hillbilly.
Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future.
Foreploy: Any misrepresentation about yourself for the purpose of getting laid.
Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period.
Giraffiti: Vandalism spray-painted very, very high.
Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it.
Inoculatte: To take coffee intravenously when you are running late.
Hipatitis: Terminal coolness.
Osteopornosis: A degenerate disease. (This one got extra credit.)
Karmageddon: It's like, when everybody is sending off all these really bad vibes, right? And then, like, the Earth explodes and it's like, a serious bummer.
Decafalon (n.): The grueling event of getting through the day consuming only things that are good for you.
Glibido: All talk and no action.
Dopeler effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.
Arachnoleptic fit (n.): The frantic dance performed just after you've accidentally walked through a spider web.
Beelzebug (n.): Satan in the form of a mosquito that gets into your bedroom at three in the morning and cannot be cast out.
Caterpallor (n.): The color you turn after finding half a grub in the fruit you're eating.
Ignoranus: A person who's both stupid and an a******.

cache abroad (v.) - to pay for female escort

ammo box (n.) - a bovine transportation container

Gladware-what the village people have on at the YMCA! :wacko:

SWAG- Sealed with a gecko. Lep has used up all of his hamsters. B)

YAPIDKA-Latka Gravis' kid brother. He only appeared in a few episodes of Taxi. Both roles were played by Andy Kaufmann. :unsure:

Forums-where everyone knows your name, and gripe, and problems, and .....

Avatar-what a cockney lad says when offering you a friendly sailor on the wharf (clad in gladware)

Ok I'm done that last one was a real stretch.

Ok, these suck the big time, but here goes:

 

Snoogans (n. pl.) - friendly firearms

hedberg (geogr.) - Mt. Rushmore

El Diablo (adj.) - Capable to estimate the lethal dosis

Renegade Knight (interj.) - Used as a mild exclamation when the kidneys fail at nocturnal hours

decrypt (v.) - to pull out the cache container from a sepulcher

cruise control (v.) - to write down license plate numbers and take photographs at an inspiration point

Nude Cacher (n.) - someone buying salamanders

hiking staff (n.) - provincial personnel

I guess it IS about time I gathered these together... Some are particular to AS regulars...

 

FORUM SHEPHARD: Someone who signs on to a public forum and declares him/herself God.

 

eTrexercise = All the extra walking you do when all you've got is the little yellow booger

 

Bugho = Someone who re-visits caches just to snag the travel bugs

 

Bugwarden = Someone who gets a travel bug and doesn't want to set it free again

 

Bugjunkie = Someone who would drive over their own mother for a Travel Bug

 

Magellicide = Walking off a cliff while following the map on your GPS insead of the road

 

Poocache = What you sometimes find when you reach into the hollow log without looking first

 

Stunodgrapher = Someone who keeps track of what the chicken says

 

Upermensch = Those who fantasize about flamingos

 

Sparky Wattage = amount of energy necessary to fire up a thread

 

Transitory = sex change for a pig

 

Webfruit = the chunky things between a frog's toes

 

JeMBELLISHMENT = Throwing in a bus comment just to keep Einstein happy.

 

CACHE HASH = the small bits of leaves, broken toys, snail shells, bug bodies and other detritus found at the bottom of a well-visited cache

 

CACHE DRAWER = where a cacher keeps his supply of pencils, notebooks, plasic bugs, sock puppets, McToys, film cans and other caching supplies

 

CACHE DRAWERS = items occassionally left in caches at entrances to nudist colonies.

 

CACHE NUTS = found in above

 

CASHEW NUTS = a yummy, hign protein snack

 

CACHE U-NUTS = used with cache U-bolts to secure caches to poles

 

JOHNNY CASH = Famous country/western singer

 

JOHNNY CACHE = See: muggled, disgusting mess

 

CACHE RELIEF = A handy tree away from the cache and fellow cachers

 

CACHE CASH RELIEF = finding change for the meter in the micro when all you have left is bills

 

ICONFILIA = a love of posting forum icons by themselves as a way to raise one's "post count"

 

CACHERAM = mythical source of all Hindu and Buddhist related virtual caches

 

ICONFILIC LOG = Log wih more than two posting icons in the body. Often associated with the kind of people who dot their "I's" with smiley faces.

 

ICONECTOMY = The practice of removing other writers' icons when quoting their posts.

 

CACHE POTATO = Cacher who spends hours on the computer instead of caching.

 

PUNTERED = A play on words that no one wants to be around.

 

GARMEANDERED = tried to find a cache on a cloudy day, in the woods, by only following the "Go To" arrow on your little yellow eTrex. see also: eTREXERCISE

 

NORMOPATH = one who cache potatos waiting for the 50th post on every page.

 

GEOCRASHING = Crossing private property to get to a cache.

 

CACHEGUERILLA = One who places a cache anywhere regardless of caching etiquette, rules or proper procedure.

 

GUERILLACACHE = One placed in defiance of rules, just begging to be archived.

 

CATSCAN = Allowing GPSKitty to OK your posts.

 

AMMOPHELES = Type of mosquito found living near traditional caches.

 

SAXOTRACK = The action of injecting some necessary levity into otherwise humorless posts.

 

SKEETER-DEETER = Expert in bug repellant

 

GEO-METRO = one who's caching astivities are limited to urban areas

 

NON-SILLYCITATION POLICY = Practice of not allowing AS regulars to post elswhere in the site.

 

LOGARITHMS - Notes left by poetic cachers

 

LOGJAM - What occurs when the cache owner fails to replace the cache log.

 

McBEEF - Complaint about the placement of Happy Meal toys in caches.

 

LEGGROOM - The act off brushing the burrs off one's pants

 

ZIPBLOCK - The bad spot on a cheap baggie that keeps it from sealing properly.

 

MEWSPAPER = the part the cat sleeps on

 

McCache = Just like a thousand others found all over the world hidden the same way with the same kind of stuff inside.

 

COAdvil = headache medication for AS moderators

 

puppymobster = moderator with a few connections in the "family" ... if you know what I mean.

 

uperdooper = a regular contributor to the geocaching.com forum

 

upperpooper = second story on a fancy outhouse

 

Pipanella = a contributing member of the geo-caching.com forum

 

Pimpanella = Cinderella's less fortunate sister

 

Cache fluffer = someone who feels obligated to go through a crowded Tupperware container leaving it impossible to close the lid

 

Geo Prism = Inexpensive car that is my current ride.

 

Geo Prison = Cache containing a Travel Bug that is in a nearly inaccessible location

Datum --- what the girl said about the cute guy: "Sure, I'd like to datum. If he'd just ask me!"

 

Longitude --- wife gets in a snit that lasts a long time she's got a major longitude.

 

Latitude --- person who is generally happy & laughing: "He's always laughing. He's got a great latitude!"

 

Cache Box --- where I keep my poker money under my underwear on the 2nd drawer.

 

Travel Bug --- what the kids seem to get just as soon as you pull out of the driveway on a 500 mile journey.

 

Cache Log --- my checkbook register where I write in the amount of money I (don't) have

 

Trade Item --- examples: a hammer is a carpenter's trade item. A wrench is a mechanic's trade item. A stethoscope is a doctor's. etc. (OK -- I stretched on this one)

 

Cache Approver --- the loan officer at the bank

 

Missing Cache --- the coins under the seats in your car

 

Online Log --- the stinkin' piece of wood that your fishing line ALWAYS gets caught on

 

Cache Event --- payday!!!

Captain Morgan (n.) - military person demanding supplementary weaponry

discreet - acting like you dont know anything when you know full well that someone knows that you know something, even though you try to appear to know nothing, which triggers someone else to believe that someone knows that you know something, and it continues so forth, ad infinitum, until someone just decides to call the police and get it over with.
