Poistin kätkön kokonaan. Tein kätkön uudelleen viime viikonloppuna, mutta ennen kun ehdin purkaa hyllytystä, kätkön sisältö oli levitetty ympäristöönsä.

Paikka on liian altis ilkivallalle, joten pitää suunnitella uusia kätköjä ja unohtaa tämä.

Ehdottaisin, että jos kätkön kuvaukseen tehdään olennaisia muutoksia, ne merkittäisiin jotenkin näkyvästi, esimerkiksi lihavoimalla.

 

Kerron tässä vähän muunnetun esimerkin. Erään kätkön kuvauksessa luki alun perin suunnilleen näin: laske siniset esineet rakennuksessa. Sitten eräänä päivänä kuvauksessa lukikin: laske siniset ja vihreät esineet rakennuksen yhdeltä seinältä. Muutos oli melko olennainen, mutta sen huomaaminen tekstistä oli hyvin vaikeaa.

Ehdottaisin, että jos kätkön kuvaukseen tehdään olennaisia muutoksia, ne merkittäisiin jotenkin näkyvästi, esimerkiksi lihavoimalla.

I will desing a better box to fit in the cache location and try one more time, if it won't work, this cache has to be archived. The cache will be back in operation in couple of weeks.

My cache "Helsingin mareografi", waypoint GCHEB6, is now disabled temporarily. An evil santa claus has been there to rob the good guys´ gifts.

The granite pillar stands proud, so you can still calibrate your gadgets, but in the moment there is no log book to be found by the hut.

 

I'm going to replace the canister soon, but I must first find a better hiding place for it. I believe the present has been compromised for good. If I can manage, I'll probably hide two canisters. The first one in the old place with a message "Eat me!" hidden inside a rat-trap and the second (the real one) somewhere near.

But I wouldn't do that really - OR WOULD I NOW? Vaffanculo, bastardi.

The text for KAPEE has been slightly edited.

However the change may cause troubles for someone in couple of weeks if not notified and the snowing continues.....

It now says: 'This cache will be covered by snow !!' instead of :' This cache will not be covered by snow !!'.

No big change at all !!

Helsingin mareografi

 

There has been a very small change in the coordinates of the granite pillar by the Helsingin mareografi geocache. My original rounding was incorrect so I now have to publish more precise WGS84 coordinates. The original correct EUREF-FIN coordinates do not change at all.

 

New, more accurate coordinates (WGS84) of the reference point are:

 

North 60° 09.221'

East 024° 57.404'

 

The difference to the old, slightly incorrect coordinates is only +0.001 minutes to the north, or approximately two metres away from the sea.

 

I think that this has no practical consequence to the calibrations that have already been made at the pillar because the real accuracy of normal hand-held GPS receivers is between 5 to 15 metres.

Korjattu muuttujat Bizarre Statue Tour -kätkökuvaukseen. Laskentakaavat ovat entiset, mutta päällekkäisyys muuttujissa on nyt korjattu. Wanhallakin kätkökuvauksella kyllä selviää, sekaannuksen vaaraa ei pitäisi olla. Pahoittelen tapahtunutta.

Helsingin mareografi

 

There is now a new canister and log book to my Mareografi cache.

There is no rat-trap in the old place but it is filled with concrete. The hooligans must have been members of the Mareografi maintenance staff who have fixed the serious hole in the hut's foundations. When inspecting the state of the cabin, they have probably thought the canister just a piece of rubbish. I'm just guessing because I believe that man is inherently good (most of the time).

I hope that the new hiding place is at least as safe as the one before, that is, lasting at least the whole of year 2005. If that disappears, the next canister will be placed in a bank vault... Difficulty is going to be ten stars. Hah!

The difficult setting comes only from a single question:

 

How easy is it to find the cache?

1. Cache is in plain sight or location is fairly obvious.

2. Cache could be in one of several locations. Hunter may have to look for a while.

3. Cache may be very well hidden, may be multi-leg, or may use clues to location.

4. Cache likely requires special skills, knowledge, or in-depth preparation to find. May require multiple days or trips to find

5. Finding this cache requires very specialized knowledge, skills, or equipment. This is a serious mental or physical challenge.

Please consider visibility, accessibility, and relative signal strength due to tree cover or other obstructions when answering this question.

 

The 5-star difficulty is chosen obviously because of the bolded parts of the 5th option. However, the terrain rating is what determines the difficulty of getting to the spot. Once you've reached the coordinates, and start searching for the cache itself, comes the difficulty part. *) In this case, finding the 'cache' is simply taking a photo, and I wouldn't say having to bring a camera is the equipment which raises the difficulty to 5-star. I'd rate the difficulty 1 or 1½ star (half, because you might have to think for awhile what 'Fiellukordsi' actually is).

 

*) Of course, solving/figuring the final coordinates at home might be difficult too and raise the rating, but it's not the case here.

Finding Fiellukordsi is a serious physical challenge, because only way you can reach it is a rough, at least two days long hike. You will need also special equipment for such a hike - you can't go there just with your regular geocaching gear, you will need much more things, like a tent and gas cooker.

Actually, getting there is the physical challenge. I agree that the terrain is correctly rated 5-star. However, difficulty is how hard it is to find the cache once you get there (the link is just an example of the forum consensus of the matter). It seems to be very easy.
