westonwanderers
Hi all, I am please to announce, that a new version of the GeocacheUK mobile midlet is now available for download. Changes Made: Ability to view either Waypoints, or Cache names in the cache list. Setting for the Distance/bearing to be shown on the same line as the Waypoint/name (for phones with large screens). Fixed bug that prevented some phones (eg Motorola V500/V525/V600) from storing preferences/ last searched co-ordinates, and therefore forcing re-entry each time the app was used. Point your phones Wap browser at: http://mobile.guk2.com or, for more information look here: http://www.geocacheuk.com/midlet.shtml Cheers, Tony. westonwanderers
Hi There, Are you using the URL 'http://mobile.guk2.com' from your wap browser? For some reason, the other 'stats.guk2.com/caches/mobile_midlet.jad' link gives an error..... Not sure why, but it you're using this link to get the update, you will have problems. Try deleting the midlet completely, and starting from scratch using the http://mobile.guk2.com link. Cheers, Tony. Quote Link to comment
+Learned Gerbil
The version number reports as the same as the version I had last week - Also, if I delete than reload I get an invalid file message. Quote Link to comment
westonwanderers
Just tried with my Motorola V500, without a problem..... Also tested it with a Nokia 6310i over the weekend, again with no problems. The strange thing is, however, the stats.guk2.com/caches/mobile_midlet.jad has just started to work again, all by itself. I guess it could be due to a diry cache somewhere. Try again now, see what happens..... What type of Phone do you have? Quote Link to comment
+Pharisee
The new version certainly works on my old 3510i Quote Link to comment
+harrogate hunters
The new version works well on my Nokia 3510i, but it allways downloads all caches, including ones that I have visited. Where do I get the profile number from (the 4 digit one) ? Quote Link to comment
+Pharisee
hover the cursor over your team name at the left of any of your forum postings and your ID number will be dispalyed at the bottom of your screen.... well at least it is on mine !!! Yours seems to be 129467 Edited August 2, 2004 by Pharisee Quote Link to comment

I had no problems with the first version i use a Nokia 5100 and would have thought it had the same java operating system as most other Nokia's......any ideas before i put my phone in a vice! westonwanderers
Have you tried downloading any other Java app.... Eg, try this : http://midlet.org/repository/laurent/lpoker/LPoker.jad (it's a free Poker game)..... See if that works. Cheers, Quote Link to comment
+pieces_of_8
Yep poker game down loads ok. As soon as the phone connects to the guk2 site it says invalid file.........strange. Its a big vice as well! Mart Quote Link to comment

+pieces_of_8
Tried the new link and............still invalid file! Does the network provider make any difference, do they stop access to some sites? Mart Quote Link to comment
westonwanderers
Ok, I've just re-hosted it on my ASDL link... Try this link, gcmobile.ath.cx Cheers, tony Quote Link to comment
+arndale
Hi, I just used the http://mobile.guk2.com link which worked fine on my Nokia 6230. It then went off and listed my nearest caches, as requested. I then tried to get the details of a couple of the caches (one at a time), but most of the details were missing. I assume that the only stuff that was in the cache was the original info before it went off for the detail. As an example cache GC70BE (Wooburn View) came back with... Lat long of N0 00.000 N0 00.000 This was showing correctly (with the ?) before it connected. OSGrid of 0 The correct distance, Difficulty, Terrain and Size. An owner of wner not found Last found was 00/71/40 and Failed Attempts was 0 Any idea what causing this? A while back when I tried it on my wifes Nokia 3410 all worked perfectly Thanks Dean Quote Link to comment
westonwanderers
I Get the same I'ts almost definatly a problem with GeocacheUK (The midlet makes use of a service they provide) - If you go to their stats pages, http://stats.guk2.com/ , there is a note to say their server is unable to contact GC.com. Hopefully it will be fixed soon. Tony. Quote Link to comment
+arndale
Thanks for the quick response Tony. One other question. Would it have been OK to just grab the jar file from the site and then infra red it to my phone or does it need the jad file to do things with? Just wondering as I first did it that way and then tried downloading in via WAP when I first got the errors. Cheers Dean Quote Link to comment
westonwanderers
I think Nokia provide an application installer, that you select the .jad with..... It then beems the Application .Jar and .jad to the phone via irda (or bluetooth even). Quote Link to comment
+pieces_of_8
dadgum and blast, still not working....i think i'll have to try every now and then just to see if it sorts itself out. Mart Quote Link to comment
westonwanderers
did you try the new link? http://gcmobile.ath.cx cheers. Quote Link to comment
+arndale
I did try to grab the jad file, but it wasn't having any of it, so I went for the jar, which it coppied fine, and appeard to work (except for the problems I decribed above). Is the jad file just a description or does it have a purpose? Thanks Dean Quote Link to comment
+pieces_of_8
hello..again. Yes i've tried the new link but still the same message. As soon as it connects PING up comes the message DOH! Mart Quote Link to comment
+Mad H@ter
As an example cache GC70BE (Wooburn View) came back with... An owner of owner not found Last found was 00/71/40 and Failed Attempts was 0 I'm getting the same problem on a Nokia 3510i on Virgin. This is a new instal following the instructions on GCUK. Have not used this application before. Quote Link to comment
+Teasel
The geocaching.com server is currently blocking all access from the GeocacheUK server. Since the cache details are obtained live from GC.com (rather than from the G:UK database), this means that the mobile midlet is currently unavailable. I've contacted Groundspeak to find out what the problem is. Meanwhile I'll see if I can make a temporary change to the script so that it works again. Cheers, Ian [Edit] - OK should now be working (though the OS coordinates added to the descriptions are now duplicated). Edited August 6, 2004 by Teasel Quote Link to comment
