Team Flying Dachshund Posted July 28, 2004 Posted July 28, 2004 Is it possible to place an audio file on a cache page? Quote
Stunod Posted July 28, 2004 Posted July 28, 2004 Nope...but you can link to it if it is on your own web space. Quote
Boo & Kitty Posted July 28, 2004 Posted July 28, 2004 There are a couple caches around my area that feature audio files. GCG71M GCGA4J In looking at the source code, it appears that the audio files are stored on the Groundspeak site. Of course, it may be that these are "grandfathered". Feel free to Markwell me, if you like. Quote
Ambrosia Posted July 28, 2004 Posted July 28, 2004 I think that as long as your file has a web address, you should be able to link to it in your html, and it will play when the cache page is opened. Quote
Keystone Posted July 28, 2004 Posted July 28, 2004 (edited) Older cache pages with audio files (or other non-image files) are grandfathered. For security reasons, it is no longer possible to upload anything other than image files directly to a cache page. But by linking from another site, you get to the same result. I just listed a puzzle cache today where the coordinates are given in morse code using a looped file stored by the cache owner on his own website. Edited July 28, 2004 by Keystone Approver Quote
Team Flying Dachshund Posted July 29, 2004 Author Posted July 29, 2004 (edited) If you cant save audio files to a cache page is there a free web hosting service thats let you save audio files to website? Edited July 29, 2004 by Team Flying Dachshund Quote
Will+Bill Posted July 29, 2004 Posted July 29, 2004 If you set up a MSN passport account, you get a free 3MB of space. That might work, but I only use it for backup. I use my Earthlink PWP for uploads which has 10MB for each sub account. This is the same for most internet services. Quote
art begotti Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 [sHAMELESS PLUG!] www.glpics.com has free webspace, good for pics, sounds, whatever. my recommendation. [/sHAMELESS PLUG!] Quote
2Est8Attys Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 Boson's Caches play an audio clip (boson's whistle) when they are opened. You may want to look up one of his caches, right click, and V iew Source to see the HTML used. Quote
wray_clan Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 click With this, you could phone in your posts to your blog (which truly are easy to set up), and then, on the cache page, either link to the blog or the audio tidbit. It'd be pretty cool to hear the hider's voice. Just because it's simply cool. What more can one ask for? Quote
Cow Spots Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 I used an audio file when designing this puzzle cache (Channel Surfing), and yes, I had to link it from my personal webspace. It's necessary to listen to it to solve the puzzle. I believe there was a time when you could embed sound files within cache pages so that they played automatically, but I'm pretty sure that's not allowed anymore. Good thing too... forcing a sound to play every time a webpage loads definitely annoys some people. --Dave, The Cow Spots Quote
maleki Posted August 7, 2004 Posted August 7, 2004 Would be annoying to have sound blast you at 2AM when trying to prepare the next days caching adventure. To include sound hints or sounds needed to find the cache will totally defeat the concept of paperless caching. Just Say No! The KISS principle is srongly suggested. Just my opinion - of course.
