RexBloodman
I am thinking about setting up a Travel Bug Terminal near my local truck stop. I am wanting to know if there would be a call for it. If so I will make it big enough for the travel bug gnome to fit in it even. Please leave me feedback for this endevor. jldavis10 (newbie) Quote Link to comment
+Milbank
I am wanting to know if there would be a call for it I think the only way to find out is to do it. Sound like a great idea to me. Quote Link to comment
+Eric K
Not only truckers stop at truck stops! It would probably work fine since truck stops are usually along busy routes. Quote Link to comment
+Ltljon
I travel usually no more than 3-4 hundred miles from home & many times enjoy a cache along the highway just to get that "fix'. It helps if theres room to park a 30' vehicle so your idea sounds like a good one. Quote Link to comment
+sledgehampster
Bravesfan (Hi Mom) out of Tennessee drives a truck, think it is a great idea. Just don't confuse the Lot Lizards with TB's! Quote Link to comment
+tirediron
I'm not hauling any more, but if I was, yeah, I would definitely be into it! Great idea - I hope you make it happen. Just don't confuse the Lot Lizards with TB's! Ummm shouldn't be any problem there. The TB will be clean! Quote Link to comment
+BlueDeuce
The only thing I consider when placing a TB hotel is how close is it to another. Then I figure, 'ah, what the heck' and place it. Yep...., that's about it. Quote Link to comment
RexBloodman
The only thing close is a cache that is not TB friendly due to it's location. It will be a couple of weeks before I am ready to set it up. All I have for a GPSr is a geko 101 I hope that the reading are good enough at the time of setting. Quote Link to comment
+Torry
I drive a big box truck all over Indiana and think it's a great idea. There are several rest stops along my route with caches and some of them are quite popular. I have my eye on a bit of abandoned woods near a popular Flying J truck stop for an 18-wheeler themed cache. I think the land is highway easement and should be legal. The only problem is there are signs that it may be a common transient camping area. I'll keep looking. Go for it! Quote Link to comment
+ZackJones
Go for it. One of the next two caches I'm placing will be a TB hotel for folks traveling through central Georgia. The more there are the better, IMO. Zack Quote Link to comment
+TheHawksNest
I think its a great idea. My wife is a General Manager of a TA truckstop, she has given me permission to place one in the wooded lot behind the truckstop.... all I have to do is place it. I am sure it will get alot of traffic in and out with the number of drivers using the internet now. TA truckstops are even offering WI-FI hotspots at each truckstop now. Quote Link to comment
CoyoteRed
You will need to be very, very careful with placement. Because you are encouraging TB's, you are talking much more than regular swag if it comes up missing. As any trucker will know, truck stops get all kinds of activity--folks doing pretrips and minor repairs, to just sitting and people watching, or walking their dogs. I think the best thing to do is to make it a very short walk away from view of the parking area, but not so far as no one will do it. I had planned a TB Reststop at a local Wilco, but it didn't pan out. Might want to make a note on the cache page for non-commercial vehicles to not park where the big trucks do, that would surely draw ire and attention--especially when parking is short. ...oh, and to not call anybody "good buddy!" +geographer-pam
Sorry for the ignorance...but what is a TB terminal (I know what a TB is! lol) It SOUNDS from reading this thread that it is a place to put TBs but why??? Isn't the point that it is taken from cache "A" and then placed in cache "B"? Is this for those times that someone can't get to another cache in a "reasonable time" (from what I've read - the 2 weeks timeframe?) and so someone else will come along and take the whole bunch and place them in new caches? Sorry if this is a silly question, but I'm really trying to learn the game! Thanks - pam Quote Link to comment
CoyoteRed
Close, Pam! It is just a dedicated cache usually placed at or near major traveling routes and intersections designed to help further a TB's goal. Quote Link to comment
