+Bjorn74 Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 A group of cachers in Ohio is collectively considering heading out to Nevada next August for Burning Man. If there are enough cachers, we could create a Location(less) Theme Camp. I figure we'd need to know if we could pull it off fairly early, so I'll test the waters a month before 2004's. Burning Man on the Web If we did a Theme Camp it would be fun to base it on Location and Locationless if we can tie it into the main theme. It would be an inside joke for forumsters but a philosophical dilemma in spite of it. "Are we really here or are we just brains/minds floating in a scientist's vat or test tube?" I think it would be fun, anyway... Really just curious more than anything.
+TeamK-9 Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 I think it would be really cool, but it's a bit of a drive for me...
+Team GPSaxophone Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Count me in! I so wanted to go this year, but it just didn't work out.
+Cache Viking Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 I saw the event on a web site, maybe even their own. Do not recall exactly. I do recall it does not look like my kind of an event.
+JohnnyVegas Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 I have freinds that go to burning man every year, for me I can think of better ways to spend my money.
+CompuCash Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 I wouldn't mind going - have thought of it several time - timing is wrong this year - but the worst for me is that it is just so HOT!
+cache_us_if_you_can Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 (edited) Burning Man is fine and dandy, but the best time to go to the Black Rock is when there aren't 10,000 people there. We make a handful of trips to the area every year and, if anyone is interested, we'd be happy to meet up with others and show them some of the sights. You can see a few of my pictures of the area here; I hope to add some better pictures soon. Edited July 24, 2004 by cache_us_if_you_can
+Robespierre Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 Bjorn, people have questioned your sanity before....but Hey, are there any hamsters in the desert?
+woof n lulu Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 Count me in! I so wanted to go this year, but it just didn't work out. In the meantime you could always try this one This festival has only been around for almost 300 yrs....
+Jared_and_Tanis Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 Okay, so I read through the Burning Man website, but I am still confused. From what I gather, this is something that you have to be at to understand...but that doesnt sit well with me - can anyone explain exactly what this event is?
+Snoogans Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 I have soooooo wanted to go to this event even before they settled on Black Rock Desert as a regular venue. One day I'll grow huevos enough to make it there. I check the website after every event. Burning Man seems like my kind of fun! But then, if you already read my profile, you KNEW that.

Well, except maybe Mystery Woman. I'm guessin' if there's a blue nekkid guy runnin' around, that'd be you?

+Corp Of Discovery Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 I've thought about going some time.........
inventorjg Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 I have heard about it and seen documentaries. It looks like a place for hippies, probably not my setting.
+SamLowrey Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 Was Burning Man one of the evil guys in the movie Running Man?
+mtn-man Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 Well, I hate to say it, but planning a trip to a non-geocaching event really isn't what these forums are for. This event would not be suitable for a geocaching event cache either honestly. While the event is something I have heard of, it is not geocaching related. To celebrate the end of the topic I will post a photo of the burning man as he ends his yearly rule over the event. I hope you have fun if you go out there.
