Lost In Canada

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm trying to input a spot in canada into my garmin gps12. The cordinates look different and my gps wont let me put them in. Lat 43.57 4260 lon -79.77 399

I read some geocaches with similar numbers but I can't get there After the . my unit won't go past 5, it returns to 0 no 7. Is this just me? I'm lost. I'm from NJ if that explains anything.

Thanks for any help Nick

What you have is decimal degrees format. Your GPS expects degrees + decimal minutes format. You should convert your data. This is very easy to do. Keep the degrees part, i.e. 43 and -79. Then multiply the part after the decimal point by 60, i.e.

i.e. the coordinates to enter into your gps are:

N 43° 34.4556'

W 79° 46.4394'
