LITE BUNCH
I AM NEW TO GPS UNITS BUT I AM WANTING TO ADD MORE DETAILED MAP INFO TO MY NEW GARMIN GPSMAP 60C. I HAVE LOOKED AT "MAPSOURCE METROGUIDE" VERSION 5 BUT IT STATES THAT automatic route calculation works on the PC only NOT on the GPS itself. WHAT DOES THAT EXACTLY MEAN? LIKE I SAID, I AM NEW TO THIS GPS AND NOT FAMILIER IF automatic route calculation IS SOMETHING THAT I REALLY NEED TO WORRY ABOUT OR NEED BECAUSE GARMIN'S OTHER PROGRAM, WHICH IS GARMIN "CITY SELECT" VER.5 DOES OFFER AUTOMATIC ROUTE CALCULTION ON BOTH THE PC AND GPS. I JUST DON'T KNOW WHICH OF THE TWO PROGRAMS WOULD BE BETTER. PLEASE HELP Quote Link to comment
+webscouter.
City Select is the way to go. Quote Link to comment
+Cache Viking
City Select is the way to go. I use it on my Garmin V all the time and once you use autorouting to go somewhere you have never been before you will be sold on it. Auto routing also works on the trail in the new Nat Park Maps. These maps also have some nice detail. Quote Link to comment
LITE BUNCH
how does auto-routing work? Quote Link to comment
+Team DEMP
Auto routing on a 60C(S) works by selecting a destination and telling it to go to it. The unit then calculates the route (fastest or shortest based on your preference) and directs you step by step of the way. It tells you how long and how far until your next turn, etc. Quote Link to comment
Swagger
You choose a destination (waypoint, address, intersection, Starbucks, etc.) and select "Go To", then "Follow Road". It calculates the route and starts telling you how to get there. Quote Link to comment
+Team DEMP
Check out http://www.gps.tv/ and look at the various 60C(S) and 76C(S) videos and maybe you can get an idea. You can do auto routing on a unit without details but it's more useful that way on major highways. It won't provide you with door to door directions without City Select. Quote Link to comment
+Imajika
Yep! I've got City Select on my Garmin 60cs and it works like a charm! Helps me get to caches and addresses I am unfamiliar with MUCH easier than trying to find it on a paper map. Sometimes it takes me on a weird route but it always gets me there! I wonder sometimes WHY it picked the ruote it did but it always gets me where I need to go! And if you go off course, it will recalculate the directions so you don't need to make a u-turn and backtrack. Quote Link to comment
+Jacksons
Metroguide does work and auto route on the 60c.I use it all the time and it works fine Quote Link to comment
LITE BUNCH
WELL HOW COME IT STATES THAT METROGUIDE WILL NOT DO AUTO ROUTE CALCULATIONS? BUT THAT THE CITY SELECT WILL? Quote Link to comment
+NightPilot
Lite Bunch, you're hurting my eyes. Please stop shouting. Use a normal-size font, and turn off the caps lock. [] Quote Link to comment
+welch
WELL HOW COME IT STATES THAT METROGUIDE WILL NOT DO AUTO ROUTE CALCULATIONS? BUT THAT THE CITY SELECT WILL? Please change your font/size and unlock caps its rather annoying to me (yes Im self centered ) As for why it says that, someone somewhere thought it didn't I guess. Perhaps they fixed something allowing it to work. You have it? its open? try it. If it works, be happy Quote Link to comment
+rpwings
Metroguide V4 for Canada *will* work with the Garmin 60C series for auto route calculations. However, auto route will *not* work on the 60C series with Metroguide V5 for USA. Best Regards, RPwings Quote Link to comment
