+achstone Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 I'll be in the area of Lopez Island Washington during this next week for a wedding. Any caches that are a must see? Thanks Seth 1/2 of Achstone. Quote
+Wienerdog Posted July 3, 2004 Posted July 3, 2004 I'm sorry I can't answer that question. I haven't cached there. YOO-HOO? Anybody cache Lopez? Quote
ryanharris Posted July 3, 2004 Posted July 3, 2004 There are at least 3 caches on the island, if I remember correctly. Seach zip 98261 in the hide and seek cache page. I found the Sharkbait cache two summers ago via the water. I don't know how it is from the land. There are great water and island view from it though. The Spit happens would have great views too. There will be alot of people around the park now. Happy Hunting. Ryan Quote
+achstone Posted July 16, 2004 Author Posted July 16, 2004 We ended up hitting a bunch on San Juan Island. Absolutely beautiful place. For all you that have the Islands in your back yard, and have never visited.....try to find out a way to stop by. We had a blast....we don't get to see many Orca's in Vermont Quote
cachervanbeethoven Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 To any cachers planning to visit Lopez Island - I need a geo-favor! A few months ago I attempted to place a new cache on Iceberg Point on the south end of the Island. It turned out that I needed permission from the Coast Guard or BLM to place the cache - I haven't had time to dig into this and so the cache hasn't been approved. The problem is that I foolishly put a travel bug in the cache and haven't had time to go back and retrieve it. If anyone is up for an easy hike to a very scenic destination and would like to rescue the TB for me, please let me know - I'll send you the coordinates & details. A bit of info: it's located near the benchmark TR1788 http://www.geocaching.com/mark/details.aspx?PID=TR1788 Also see this map of the area http://www.or.blm.gov/spokane/maps/sw_lopez.pdf Thanks! Too bad your cache won't get approved. As to retrieving it, not everybody reads the forums, so I suggest contacting cachers living on Lopez Island directly. I would try lopezdryad and LittleLuckyLopez. There might be others. In addition, you could ask an approver to approve your cache and (if necessary) archive it again immediately. That way, you'd have a link to give to whoever wants to go for it, and the retriever would get to log a Find for the effort. And for anyone going to Lopez Island: don't miss out on 'Shipwrecked'. One of my favorites. FWIW. Quote
cachervanbeethoven Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 Travel Bug rescue mission accomplished! Thanks Shunra for your good advice and thanks lopezdryad for the rescue effort! Now I've just have to get permission for that cache . . . Quote
