Unfortunately another event has superseded this one so I will not be able to attend.

<_<

Hope everyone else enjoys the event. For those new to geocaching who have never been to an event, geocachers are very friendly towards people new to geocaching so go have some fun!

Later,

Batonka

P.S. It's Batonka NOT Bakonta, Avroerr! <_<

Two important notes:

With the spectacular help from Dave of TeamDEMP all 10 Pirates of Harriman caches have been placed. (1/2 have been submitted).

They will be activated 24th July and I will also have cache sheets at the event.

Hope to see all you land lubbers there!

I didn't help much - just kept Avroair company.

Folks, Avroair has done a tremendous job planning and placing these caches. A couple are relatively easy and a couple you'll have to work for. All of them are themed and everyone should enjoy doing them.

Looks like there's going to be a great turnout. If anyone knows how to control the weather, 80 degrees, low humidity and mostly sunny is my preference. I'll be bringing a fishing rod with me too since the picnic area is right on some water.

Hope to see everyone there!

David

Just wanted to let everyone know that the specific area we'll be in for the picnic portion of the event has pretty poor cell coverage, at least with Verizon. Figured it would be good to know if you were expecting coverage so you could contact someone or they could contact you.

On the mountains that the event caches were placed coverage was spotty to good.

Weird since there are areas of Harriman that I have a full signal and this specific area is the only location I noticed a problem.

Everyone should, if they have them, bring FRS radios and tune to channel 2.

I think it's time for skigirl to increase your medication again! <_<

I only know about the reception because I couldn't make calls in the parking lot of where we were going to be. And that was with nice weather and not the 100% chance of rain you're predicting

That would be perfect. If it rains my stupid festival thing would be canceled and I could make it!

BTW, I want that Blue Dog and I might have to come to Jersey Tomorrow to get it.

So, for use southerners that haven't been to Harriman in 15+ years ...

I know there are tons of historic and abandoned sites in the area, what are the "must do" caches in the area?

Look for logs by Waterboy and Jonboy. If both of those "boys" logged the cache and had something positive to say it's probably worthwhile.

The event has 9 caches being activated the morning of the 24th. Plus a bonus mystery prize cache already activated. Doing all of those will take 1/2 a day at the least.

Africa Loop Series Is a nice hike, but no abandoned stuff.

Boston Cache Has a cool mine/cave and was placed in 2000 so it is one of the areas oldest caches.

Keep on Hiking Large bushwhack, but the view is great.

All the shelter caches by Brian B. are great. You really can't go wrong with a good trail map.

Uh oh, Floopy got it. That puppy is going for a ride. Say goodbye Neil.

It's going to Africa, where there are zebras...

Looks like Team FosterBass will be able to attend. (yeah, it's just me on the "team" but I felt akward at the CT Jamboree for not having a Team Name.)

I'll bring a bunch of veggie burgers to offset some of the BeefHeartBurgers that were served up last time. I'll also bring two cases of water and a case of diet soda.
