Caching Record In Edinburgh

Recommended Posts

All this talk of caching numbers, plus a comment by Haggis Hunter a while ago, has me wonder whether anyone would like to try for a record in Edinburgh. There are 42 caches within an 8.2 mile radius of the city centre. Could it be achievable in 24 hours I wonder? I'm sure local cachers would rally round to help/buy a drink for anyone tempted to try.

Sounds like an excellent challenge.

Whats the most central cache so others can do a search of the area using geocacheuk. If I was to attempt it, it wouldn't be for few months as I start my new job in a couple of weeks and not sure how much time I'll have spare. (Big promotion you see.)

Has seasider retired yet?? ;)

Probably the most central cache is Crag and Tail which is on Edinburgh castle rock. According to geocacheuk there are 38 caches within a 10 mile radius, or 27 caches classified as being in Edinburgh.

I think that it would be a very tough challenge; there are a few fairly long historical multis, one cache is on an island and can only accessed at low tide, another is up a hill and is most easily accessed when the chairlift is operating, and another one can only be done at night (not as easy as you might think when it's not dark here until around 11pm at the moment). The geocacheuk site lists some of these as being outside Edinburgh, but I think the boundaries it uses are a little strange.

Having been forced to look East for caches as I'm running out of local West coast ones....I have bagged one or two in and around Edinburgh and if the cacher was on foot I would say this challenge is very near impossible....perhaps a very fit runner might make a dent in the top numbers....but just walking would eat up too much time.

Of course if he or she was being driven about by helpers (and no doubt getting a little assistance into the bargain!?) on a fast motorbike (driving a car in Edinburgh is a nightmare LOL) then it just might be possible within a dawn to dusk period.

It will be interesting to see if anyone takes up this challenge!?

Ullium.

Excellent idea. Looks like we will have to try and get over that saturation point that we where talking about FoF.

For the people that haven't been to Edinburgh before, we aren't as posh as the Londoners, we don't have an underground system, but our bus service is fairly good. I mean you wait 20 minutes for a number 22 then 5 turn up at once. That is true and happens all the time, but that is because it is our busiest bus route and runs every 5 minutes.

Click on the link for the Bus Routes as they are good, and a lot cheaper at £2 for unlimited travel all day. But I don't think that anybody will get all of them in a day.

So come on some one prove me wrong.
