+Prairie Dog
What is the difference in the 2MB and 9 MB basemaps that come preloaded on each unit? The SporTrak Map "It features a 2 MB North American mapping database, 6 MBs free memory for downloading street-level maps." The SporTrak Pro "It comes with a 9 MB mapping database and 23 MB free memory for downloading street-level maps." SporTrak description page Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
9mb nationwide is still spread pretty thin. You will find the basemaps general are not up to par and that hte 23mb to download better maps is much more useful. Quote Link to comment
robertlipe
Perhaps the side-by-side pictures in the FAQs below will help you understand. Personally, if it were my only unit, and those were my two choices, I'd go pro. However, once I went pro, and realized that was often the same price as a Meridian Gold that had a basemap that was better still and essentially infinite detail map via inexpensive SD, I'd probably go with the Gold. But I acknowledge that wasn't the question. :-) Quote Link to comment
+Prairie Dog
Specifically I'm asking how much greater detail is in the 9 megabyte basemap on the pro model? If it's North America only is that pretty good? Quote Link to comment
+phantom4099
The bigger basemap in the pro will contain more highways, parks, waterways, and most important more city name (you can only search names of cities that are in the basemap, even if you have detailed maps loaded). The bigger basemap in the meridian series contains better coastline detail when compared to the PROs' basemap. Wyatt W. Quote Link to comment
