mgabel Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 [On the 60CS], when I am walking on streets, the text on the top of the map says "Ready to Navigate" but when I am driving it tells me what road I'm on and what road I'm coming up to. And, if I stop the car, it goes back to saying Ready to Navigate, and stays there when I drive slowy (walking speed). So, clearly, I get different messages depending upon my speed. I'd like to change that so that when I'm walking on the street I get the same messages as when I'm driving. Can this be done? Thanks. [The compass was turned off while walking. I suppose that could make a difference, but I've not tested that. Also, I have guidence text set to "always."] Quote
+Go JayBee Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 Don't have my 60cs right now, but sounds like you are stuck on routing. Until you do a "goto", you won't get the choice to "Follow Road" or "Off Road". The other thing that may be causing havoc is there is a setting someplace to "always stay on the road"....maybe that's in the routing setup.....ya. There is a setting there to "always prompt" rather than always selecting "Follow Road". The "Follow Road" can be rather annoying when you are on a trail near a street. Makes the distance to the cache go nuts because it's trying to lock onto the nearest street. So, if you are just navigating the streets and roadways, use the "Follow Road" option.....otherwise when caching always use the "Off Road" option. This took me awhile to figure out recently when I got mine stuck on autorouting. Hope this helps, JayBee Quote

It surprised me at first because with my former unit, a GPS V, you had to go in to the menu and toggle the "lock on road" to off otherwise it would display a false position on the map if you were hiking close to a road. Obviously with the new 60/76 units the lock on road does not kick in until a certain speed is reached. Someone was using their head when they designed that feature into the firmware. If I need to know the name of the street that I'm walking on or near then I'll pan the pointer icon over it so it displays the name. Olar Quote
Neo_Geo Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 This is a feature called "Guidance Text". To change the various settings (Always Show, Never Show, and Show When Navigating): 1. Have GPSr on the Map Page 2. Press the Menu key 3. Scroll to highlight "Guidance Text". 4. Press "Enter" 5. Scroll to highlight desired setting Always Show Never Show Show When Navigating 6. Press "Enter" to activate "Always Show" means it will always use some space to display some text while on the map page. "Show When Navigating" means that the guidance text window will only be displayed if you are actually navigating to a destination. My 60C is set for "Show When Navigating", and I do only notice it when I'm navigating to a destiation. I cannot for the life of me recall seeing "Ready To Navigate" when standing still, but perhaps that maybe because I might only look at the map while the vehicle is moving. I never really payed attention to that. Quote

mgabel Posted June 22, 2004 Author Posted June 22, 2004 Except, Neo Geo, I'm talking about a situation when I'm NOT navigating, just walking or driving. I have guidence text set for Always Show. This way, when I'm just driving around, and NOT navagating, the 60CS shows the road I'm on, which direction I'm going, and the upcoming road (as I get near it). My point is that I'd like this same info when I'm just walking down the sidewalk (and not hiking in the woods) when I'm NOT navigating. So, I see the Ready to Navigate text when I'm not navigating but going slowly (either walking or driving slowly), but when I speed up (in the car), then the guidence text starts saying the info I mentioned above. Neo_Geo Posted June 24, 2004 Posted June 24, 2004 My point is that those are your only options, and how those options are changed. If none of them do what you want them to do, then there is little more that I can do for you. Quote
